Starting off our Meet the Team series with the owner of TM Auto Solutions — Tom.

Role within the business:
Owner, Director & Technician

Motor trade experience:
Tom has a total of 19 years experience in the motor trade. His journey started at just 16 years old, working for a local Land Rover main dealership. He spent 12 years with Land Rover before leaving to build TM Auto Solutions into the successful business it is today.

Following the success of TM, Tom went on to establish two sister companies: Alfords Auto Repair and Duchy Car Sales. He now oversees the day-to-day operations of both businesses, leading their continued growth and ensuring they maintain the same high standards of service and professionalism.

Why did you set up TM Auto Solutions?
“I initially started TM Auto Solutions to make extra money fixing Range Rovers to fund my hobby of racing off-road bikes. Over time, this developed into the successful business we have today.

I always wanted to be my own boss, and I could see a gap in the market — offering main dealer experience, knowledge, professionalism, state-of-the-art equipment, and competitive pricing all under one roof.”

What’s your favourite JLR product?
“For me personally, with a young family and a dog, it would have to be the Discovery. Its size, comfort and practicality make it the perfect everyday vehicle.”

We are recruiting a new team member to join our expanding team at TM Auto Solutions/Alfords Auto Repair.

We are looking for a versatile Service Advisor to work across our two sister garages both situated in Saltash.

As a Service Advisor you will be the key link between our customers and the workshop. Excellent communication skills are crucial.

Ideally, you will have outstanding organisational and administrative skills along with good attention to detail. A strong customer service background would be beneficial as you will be delivering high levels of customer satisfaction in a very busy and demanding environment.

Working hours Monday-Friday 8.30-17.30.
23 days holiday plus bank holidays.
Salary dependant on experience.

Previous experience would be beneficial but not essential.
Must hold a valid driving licence.

| DSG Service |

We carried out a DSG service to this Golf R which is due at 40,000 mile intervals.
We drained the DSG fluid and replenished with new and replaced the DSG filter with new.

If you have a DSG gearbox it may be overdue for servicing - please get in touch if we can help.

We ended March by carrying out the wet belt replacement on this 2.0 EcoBlue Ford Tourneo Custom. The wet belt was due for replacement as per the manufacturer schedule of every 6 years or 100,000 miles (whichever is sooner). We carried out the replacement using genuine Ford parts and with the specific timing tools as pictured.
The sump was taken off to allow us to remove any wet belt fibres from the oil pick up, the job was finished off by replacing the sump pan with new followed by an engine oil and filter change.

| DSG Volkswagen Caddy |

We had this Caddy van with us last week to investigate a harsh rattling noise from the front end of the vehicle. We pin pointed the noise to the gearbox internally meaning it had to be removed for further inspection.
We carried out removal of the DSG gearbox with our customers authority and confirmed the route cause to be failure of the DSG flywheel.
We supplied and fitted a new flywheel and re-assembled the gearbox.

The DSG service was also carried out where the DSG fluid was drained and replenished with new and the DSG filter removed and replaced with new. This is recommended every 40,000 miles as per the manufacturer schedule.
