We’re putting learners in control of their car driving test bookings 🚘

If you’ve got a booking or you’ll be looking for a test soon, make a note of these dates 📅

31 March 2026 – only 2 changes can be made to a booking

12 May 2026 – only learners are allowed to book a test and make changes

9 June 2026 – learners can move their booked test only to nearby centres

By changing who can book car and change driving tests, we’re aiming to reduce the re-selling of driving tests, giving the power back to learners 💪

Congratulations Carlton 🚙🥳

In January 2025 I started learning to drive.

Since then there have been:

• lessons that went brilliantly
• lessons that went terribly
• tests postponed four more times than I’d like to admit
• and at one point even getting rear-ended during a lesson.

Yesterday my brain was convinced I was going to fail.

You know the spiral when something matters:

What if I’m not ready?
What if I mess it up?

Funny how the brain works.

This morning I simplified the goal to one thing:

Drive safely for 40 minutes.
One hazard at a time.

That was it.

Today I passed my driving test in Salisbury.

It still feels slightly surreal to say that out loud.

For most people passing their test means convenience.

For me it means:

• early morning wildlife shoots
• spontaneous filming trips
• reaching locations trains don’t go
• and carrying gear without turning it into a logistical puzzle.

I’ve always believed you’re either learning or succeeding.

Today happened to be a bit of both.

There are a few people I need to thank for their support along the way.

Rich from Passmaster Driving School, for teaching me and sticking with me for the year and a bit.

As well as David W and Michelle Hopkins for supervising practice drives and helping make it all possible.

It’s going to feel very strange not having driving lessons in the calendar anymore… and even stranger heading out on the road on my own.

🚨 Important changes to driving test booking rules are coming.

From 31 March 2026, learner drivers and approved driving instructors (ADIs) will only be able to make 2 changes to a driving test booking.

A change includes:
- changing the date or time
- changing the test centre
- swapping a test between 2 learners

This is part of the outcome of our consultation to improve the way driving tests are booked.

📢 The rules for booking a practical car driving test are changing.

From 31 March 2026, learner drivers and approved driving instructors (ADIs) will only be able to change a driving test booking up to 2 times.

A change includes:
- changing the date or time
- changing the test centre
- swapping an appointment with another learner

If you’re an ADI, please make sure your pupils only book their test when they’re ready as swapping between pupils will count towards this limit. You can set times when you're available to take your pupils to their driving tests. This stops your pupils from booking tests at times that do not work for you.

👉 When this comes into force, everyone with a driving test booked will have 2 changes available, regardless of how many changes they may have already made.

This change is part of the outcome of our consultation to improve the way driving tests are booked.

One of the most common faults we see on the Ring Road in Salisbury is at Exeter Street roundabout. Approaching from Exeter Street, taking the 2nd exit ahead, onto New Bridge Road.

For some reason, the broken white line continues to confuse new drivers. With patience and a bit of practice, it can be resolved.

The video from our YouTube channel, might help speed up that learning process!

Driving test fraudster caught and convicted. 🚨

Between November 2021 and June 2023, Qounain Khan travelled across the country impersonating learner drivers to take their driving theory test - putting individuals at risk and trying to cheat the system.

Khan originally faced 32 charges of fraud. 8 charges were withdrawn but he pleaded guilty to the remaining 24 serious offences and has now been convicted.

Thanks to the our teams that work day in day out, offenders like these can be brought to justice.
