The Highway Code says:

Take extra care on country roads and reduce your speed at approaches to bends, which can be sharper than they appear, and at junctions and turnings, which may be partially hidden.

Be prepared for pedestrians, horse riders, cyclists, slow-moving farm vehicles or mud on the road surface. Make sure you can stop within the distance you can see to be clear. You should also reduce your speed where country roads enter villages 🛣️

From Sunday onwards we have the chance of rain. After weeks of extremely dry weather, this can cause something known as the ‘Florida Ice Effect’, which can make roads incredibly slippery.

It happens in the first part of a rain shower when the oils, dust, sludge and grime all get wet and are brought to the surface by the rain, creating a sheen on the roads which makes riding or driving similar to being on ice. This can make it much easier to suddenly lose control of your vehicle and spin out.

In the past, we have seen an increase in the number of road traffic collisions occurring during these periods, so we wanted to publish this warning beforehand.

If we do suddenly experience rain, take extra caution if you’re out on the roads. Ride or drive safely and be a considerate road user; ensuring that you do not travel too close to other road users, and allow extra distance for braking.

Update📣

We have lifted COVID-19 driving and theory test restrictions in England in line with government restrictions ending in this country.

This means:

😷 face coverings are a personal choice for theory and practical test candidates – candidates no longer need to tell us if they can’t wear a face covering before their test
🚗 driving tests are no longer ending early unless the candidate’s driving is so poor it is a risk to their safety and that of other road users
🧑‍🤝‍🧑 driving instructors and accompanying drivers can sit in on driving tests
🏠 you no longer have to self isolate if you have COVID-19, but we encourage you to rearrange your test if you feel unwell for any reason.

Update on practical driving lessons and tests in England 😷

It's no longer a legal requirement to wear a face covering whilst taking a driving lesson with an instructor or a car driving test in England 🚗

We are asking you and your instructor to continue to wear a face covering during lessons if you can.

This in line with government guidance that suggests people continue to wear a face covering in crowded and enclosed spaces where they may come into contact with other people they don't normally meet.

You still need to wear a face covering for your driving test if you can, which we will be keeping under review.

❌Your test will not take place without a face covering if you don’t tell us in advance that you’re not able to wear one.
