As temperatures climb above 30°C, our roads are feeling the heat too! When it’s this hot, road surfaces can reach up to 60°C in direct sunlight, causing the tarmac to soften.

🚍That’s where our gritters come in, just not with salt! Instead, we’re using finely crushed stone to help absorb excess bitumen.

We’re treating localised areas and surface dressing sites across Cornwall as a precaution to help prevent heat damage and keep the network safe.

If you spot a gritter out and about (a rare summer sight) or notice loose chippings on some roads. Please:

🚗 Drive with extra care.
↔️ Allow more stopping distance.
⚠️ Be prepared for minor disruption.

Gritters aren’t just for winter – they also play an important role in keeping our roads safe during extreme heat.

Please note when you book your driving test, that DVSA will only communicate with YOU, the person who the email confirmation is sent too.
DVSA does not send any correspondence to your driving instructor. Including any cancellations that may happen. Keep ontop of the emails DVSA send you, make sure they don’t go into your spam folder.

Your instructor will still charge if they turn up for a test with you and that test has been cancelled and you were given notice.
