🔧 BMW 535d – ECU Drop-Off & Map Tweak 🔧

Today we had a customer drop off the ECU from their BMW 535d. The main request was to add an EGR solution to the software that was already on the vehicle.

I wouldn't really call this a map fix—more of a map tweak.

The base calibration wasn't actually that bad. It just needed a few areas refining to improve the overall calibration and make everything work together properly.

The customer wasn't necessarily looking for any extra power, but after optimising the file, it's definitely picked up some additional performance along with improved drivability. Sometimes a few well-thought-out changes can make all the difference.

It just goes to show that not every file needs starting from scratch. If the foundation is good, a few careful tweaks can often produce an excellent end result.

🔧 Honda HR-V – Another Map Fix Done Properly! 🔧

This Honda HR-V came to us after the owner had collected it from another garage. Unfortunately, it was the third time he'd taken it back because the vehicle was still smoking, despite the DPF having already been removed.

After a quick chat on the phone, I said it sounded like a software issue rather than a mechanical one.

Sure enough, once I analysed the file, it was obvious what had happened. The previous software had simply had the DTCs (fault codes) removed, but the DPF regeneration strategies had never actually been disabled. As a result, the ECU was still trying to regenerate a DPF that was no longer there, causing the ongoing issues.

Rather than trying to patch up the existing file, I returned the software back to stock in WinOLS and started again from a clean base.

From there, I carried out a proper DPF and EGR solution, exactly as the customer should have received when the mechanical work was originally completed.

The result? A vehicle that now runs as it should, with the software correctly calibrated to match the hardware.

This is another reminder that removing fault codes is not the same as correctly disabling a system. A proper solution requires understanding how the ECU strategy works—not just hiding the warning lights.

✅ Silence at last! 🔇🚐

Here's the same 1.6 Vauxhall Vivaro after we rebuilt the software from a genuine original file.

No more annoying beeping every time the ignition is switched on, no warning chimes—just exactly how it should be.

Sometimes the quickest and most reliable solution isn't trying to repair a badly modified file, it's starting again with the original software and building a proper calibration from the ground up.

The customer was over the moon with the result... and so were their ears! 😂👌

🔧 Vauxhall Vivaro 1.6 – Map Fix & AdBlue Solution Correction! 🔧

This 1.6 Vauxhall Vivaro came into us with a couple of issues that needed sorting.

The first thing you noticed every time you switched the ignition on was a very annoying beeping sound. 🎵🙉 You'll be able to see and hear it in the next video.

This is a common sign of a poorly carried out AdBlue solution, and the customer had understandably had enough of it.

We were also asked to investigate the tune, as the van had a really bad flat spot between 2,500 and 3,000 RPM, making it unpleasant to drive.

Rather than trying to repair the existing calibration, I didn't even bother. I pulled a genuine original file from the server and started again from scratch. You simply don't know what has been altered in some of these files or why, so it's often quicker, safer and far more reliable to build a fresh calibration from the original software.

The end result was night and day.

✅ No more annoying ignition beeping.
✅ Flat spot completely gone.
✅ Smooth power delivery throughout the rev range.
✅ A proper calibration built from a genuine original file.

The customer's verdict?

"It pulls like a train!" 😂🚂

Sometimes the best fix isn't trying to repair someone else's work—it's starting with a clean slate and doing the job properly.

Today's job was this 2017 Mercedes-Benz C200d, in with us for an AdBlue system solution.

After carrying out our usual diagnostic checks to make sure there were no underlying issues, we completed the work and had the vehicle back up and running without any problems.

As always, we aim to provide a professional and reliable service, ensuring every vehicle is thoroughly checked before any software work is carried out.

Now for the confession... 🤦🏼‍♂️

I remembered to take the before photos, but completely forgot to take any after photos once the job was finished! I guess that's what happens when you're concentrating on getting the job done properly.

Today we had this Mercedes-Benz C220d 177 BHP in the workshop for a Stage 1 remap, giving it the performance to match its refined driving experience.

Our custom Stage 1 calibration delivers a noticeable improvement in power and torque while maintaining smooth, factory-like drivability and reliability.

📈 Performance Gains:

🎥 The Results Are In! 💨➡️✅

Following on from the previous video, here's the same Volkswagen Transporter 2.0 TDI after we corrected the calibration.

The customer wanted to:
✅ Keep the power.
✅ Keep the hard-cut limiter.
✅ Get rid of the excessive smoke.

Mission accomplished! 👌

As you can see, the van is now clean throughout the rev range. The only smoke you'll notice is during the hard-cut limiter, which is completely normal in this case. The exhaust system was heavily coated in soot from the previous calibration, so any remaining soot will gradually clear as the vehicle is driven.

The difference in the way it drives is just as impressive:
💥 No more flat spot around 2,000 RPM.
💥 Around 80 Nm more torque than the previous tune.
💥 A much stronger torque request from the ECU.
💥 Cleaner, smoother and far more enjoyable to drive.

This is why a quality calibration matters. It's not just about chasing numbers—it's about making the vehicle drive properly while keeping it as clean and efficient as possible.

💨 Just Look at That Smoke! 💨

Here's a video of the Volkswagen Transporter 2.0 TDI before we corrected the calibration.

This wasn't just a little puff of smoke—it was smoking at idle, on part throttle and at full throttle. The previous map was seriously over-fuelling the engine.

The customer wanted to:
✅ Keep the performance.
✅ Keep the hard-cut limiter.
✅ Get rid of the embarrassing smoke.

Challenge accepted! 😎

This video also captures the hard-cut limiter from the previous calibration. There's nothing wrong with a hard cut if that's what the customer wants, but the excessive smoke definitely had to go.

The next video will show the van after we corrected the calibration. The difference is night and day—cleaner, smoother, a stronger torque request from the ECU, and around 80 Nm more torque while producing virtually no unnecessary smoke.

💨 Volkswagen Transporter 2.0 TDI – Map Fix! 💨

This 2.0 TDI Volkswagen Transporter came into the workshop today with one major problem... Smoke! 😳

It was smoking on idle, part throttle and full throttle—pretty much all of the time. Safe to say it wasn't exactly subtle!

The van had previously had DPF and EGR solutions carried out elsewhere, but we were asked to look at the calibration and sort the tune out, not redo the delete work.

The customer's brief was simple:
✅ Keep the power.
✅ Get rid of the excessive smoke.
✅ Keep the hard-cut limiter... because why not? 🤷🏼‍♂️

After analysing the calibration, we found plenty of room for improvement. We reworked the tune to improve the air/fuel balance and torque delivery while retaining the performance the customer wanted.

The results speak for themselves:
💥 Virtually smoke-free throughout the rev range.
💥 The flat spot around 2,000 RPM has completely gone.
💥 The ECU is now requesting significantly more torque than it was with the previous tune.
💥 Around an extra 80 Nm of torque, making the van feel much stronger and far smoother to drive.

This is a perfect example of why not all remaps are created equal. A well-written calibration isn't just about making power—it's about delivering it cleanly, smoothly and reliably.
