“Just plug it in and it tells you what’s wrong.”
That’s what a lot of people think diagnostics is.
Others think if you throw enough parts at a problem, it’ll eventually fix itself.
Reality?
Diagnostics is tracing intermittent faults, chasing wiring issues, understanding system logic, researching known failures, and putting in the kind of time most people never see.
This is a perfect example.
This 2015 VW Sportwagen TDI came in with an intermittent buck, odd shifting behavior, and occasional limp mode. The only fault stored was a vague communication error. Prior to coming here, the VW dealer had already thrown a transmission and a mechatronics unit at it… and still couldn’t solve it.
I dug in deeper.
The root cause turned out to be a shorted wiring harness to the low-pressure EGR valve, which shares the same V-REF circuit as the crankshaft position sensor. When that harness would short intermittently, it would pull down the crank signal (blue trace on the oscilloscope).
Because this is a UDS system, no traditional fault code is set. Instead, the ECU quietly drops into backup CRS mode—the engine keeps running, but power is reduced and the car behaves badly.
No warning lights.
No clear codes.
Just symptoms.
This is exactly why we charge for diagnostics.
It’s not just plugging in a scan tool. It’s experience, system knowledge, advanced equipment, and the patience to follow a problem all the way to its source—not just the most expensive guess.

Autodiag are looking to expand there team and require an all-rounder service adviser and admin member. Some Duties to include, but not all,
Service advisor -
Leasing with customers both in reception and over the phones.
Calling for parts, creating estimates and sending these to customers.
Creating Invoices and taking payments.
Parts in and out.

Admin -
Checking off invoices and signing off account payments.
Payroll (intuit easy pay).
Dealing with social media and updating as required.

Everyone is welcome to apply if you think you are the right candidate, however, we feel this role may suit someone who has knowledge of the automotive industry and vehicles as this makes it easier to talk to customers. You will be taking over these duties from the owner so must be commited to delivering a good and honest service to customers. The right candidate must have good computer and people skills and preferably be confident and able to update social media to show the company moving forward. Working hours are 08:30 to 17:30 however these can be discussed should the right candidate come forward. Pay is negotiable and will reflect the role and duties required.
