It started with a few sailors on a Cornish sea-wall, dreaming about where the sport could go. That stretch of water has been our playground ever since - and World Ocean Day is a good reminder that playgrounds need looking after.
This year's theme is "Strong Marine Protected Areas for Our Blue Planet," which lines up with something we've thought for 30-odd years: you can't love sailing and shrug about the state of the sea. It's the same water.
It's why around 70% of our hulls are 100% recyclable, why the RS21 stacks so fewer containers and vans end up on the road, and why our regattas keep earning Clean Regatta certifications.
None of it requires reinventing your event, either. Refill stations instead of single-use bottles, a small green team so it's not all on one person, trophies that aren't another lump of plastic. Small stuff, done by enough people.
However you sail this weekend, sail in a way that leaves the water right for the next person sitting on a sea-wall, dreaming.
