Had Raj’s mustang back on the ramp got the new UJ’s fitted to the prop as the old ones on the front end were broken up and the previous garage he’d had the car to had lost the caps on the UJ the other end once they were changed we fitted the prop in place we also finished making up all the main live and earth cables with new eyelets and heat shrink sleeving as the previous garage had badly made leads with eyelets drilled out so thin they were on the verge of snapping and they were covered in blue tape holding the cable to the eyelets, mounted the starter solenoid back in its proper place and wired it up, fitted a new battery tray as all that was missing, removed the bolts holding the 2 halves of the alternator body so we could rotate it do the live feed was away from the head to stop it shorting out when the live feed to it was fitted ( this is a single wire alternator ) then we got that wired up and removed all the voltage regulator wiring as it’s not needed now and tidies up the engine bay fitted new eyelets to the wires for the ignition feed and starter switch as these terminals weren’t crimped they were just held on with tape again so there all done properly now, fitted a female spade connector to the live feed on the dizzy and an eyelet on the temp sender wire and got them fitted in place, put some new transmission cooler lines on and filled the transmission with new fluid and also checked rear differential had fluid in it, fitted a quick release battery isolator to the earth terminal, also fitted the throttle linkage after it finally turned up then managed to turn it over and got it to start, just need to put some fuel in it now and order in a fan belt so I’ll update you on this one later

Had Johns Chevy 3100 back on the ramp trying to get to the bottom of the noise he can hear, the truck runs great we’ve had the dizzy out to check all the drive on it as John thought the noise started around the time that was fitted by another garage but it all looks fine we also found an exhaust mount hadn’t been fitted with a nut so the mount was chattering on the stud when it was running so got a nut fitted on it and it got rid of that noise but it wasn’t that noise John was hearing we removed the transmission bellhousing cover and found the tooth drive on the starter is a little noisy as you can see in a video in the comments and the flex plate looks a little out of balance but doesn’t cause a vibration again there’s a clip in the comments, the steering joint is also vibrating on the frame, the battery wasn’t charging properly then we found the earth clamp on the battery was cracked so cut that off and fitted an eyelet to the cable and fitted a new clamp it’s now charging properly, fitted a new o-ring on the Speedo drive going into the transmission as it had been leaking due to the old o-ring perished, there’s also one of the parking brake rods vibrating on the exhaust box but not heard anything underneath when you load the engine up that sounds anything to worry about

Had Connor’s low mileage S197 in for a service and check over and also reported the management light on. We stripped the brakes down all round and cleaned everything up applied some anti seize compound where needed and reassembled brakes checked the brake fluid condition and found it was off the scale so flushed the brake system and bled the brakes, checked diff oil replaced engine oil and filter, cleaned air filter K&N checked and greased all steering and suspension components refitted wheels and torqued nuts to spec checked and corrected tyre pressures as most were quiet a bit over, greased all hinges latches and catches also greased seat runners. Found a big piece of plastic melted all over the exhaust so removed what we could checked antifreeze, wipers, washers, carried out a diagnostic scan and found code p0300 random misfire detected checked injectors checked egr valve was working and not jammed replaced plugs and it seems the coil pack is dropping out when we do a cylinder balance test so recommended coil pack and leads considering there age I’ll update you on this one later

Had Steve’s Chevy Silverado in today for some evap issues we replaced the evap canister and found it had fuel sitting in it and also changed the purge valve and carried out a smoke test to see if we had any other leaks but all looks good at present but did find the fuel tank pressure sensor showing some odd readings so advised steve about that but back with steve for now

Had Chris’s challenger SRT in for a new clutch and a problem on the rear light, we pulled the rear light out and found one of the pins was corroded and the plastic part of the plug was melted around it where it’s getting high resistance so got that cleaned up and fitted back in place and advised Chris to keep an eye on it, started to remove exhaust and had problems with some of the clamp bolts quite corroded but after some heat and release spray we got some of them to budge but the ones we really needed undone weren’t having any of it and this was the down pipes to manifold and we didn’t want all the problems of manifolds off etc so had to take the gearbox down through the downpipes but we got it all done and the clutch feels much better now and the cars back with Chris to enjoy over the weekend

Mark dropped his Camaro off for a service and check over checked all the tyres and bearings for play there all good removed wheels and checked brakes all round and found they were almost on the screamers so we stripped them down back and front cleaned the calipers up and applied antiseize compound to pad sliders and fitted new pads then tested the brake fluid and that also needed changing so flushed it all through and bled the brakes, carried out a light check, greased all hinges latches and catches, carried out a diagnostic scan drained old oil and replaced oil filter and refilled with new oil checked plugs greased seat runners checked other fluid levels refitted wheels and torqued all nuts to spec checked antifreeze content now back with Mark for some more YANKS UNITED events and shows

Had Kurt’s mustang in for a non start issue and water leak so we checked for a spark and found there wasn’t one so looked into feeds and earths and found the coil all wired up wrong so rewired that and managed to get it popping and banging so we knew the spark was now present so suspected the firing order, got that checked and it was right for the year of car but found the engine was a 73 so redid the plug leads for an HO engine and she fired up nicely we then looked into the water leak pressuring up the cooling system and found the water was pouring out from behind the motor mount so stripped the mount off after raising the engine and found the core plug needed replacing got the old one out and cleaned up the surrounding area and fitted a new plug refilled the cooling system and pressure tested all good now and just waiting collection

Had Chris in today with his mustang for a service and check over we got all the usual bits done like oil & filter, air filter, fuel filter, greased the seat runners all the hinges and catches checked the lights stripped the brakes down and cleaned them all up and adjusted these have all been replaced at some point, we repacked the front wheel bearings with new grease and eliminated the the play that both the front wheels had. We also greased the shift linkages on the manual gearbox as they were dry and the shifter was a little tight to move around but feels better now, checked the clutch mechanism to make sure it was sweeping properly as Chris said he wasn’t sure about the clutch but this may need looking into further, we reported a few other little issues but in all it’s a good car and back with Chris to enjoy for now

Had Steve’s cobra in today for an air filter a set of plugs a coolant change and investigate a fuel smell which we think we’ve found, when we went to move the fuel tank vent pipe we discovered the elbow in the fuel tank hadn’t been fitted properly and was allowing fuel to seep past the threads so removed it and got it cleaned up applied some thread sealant and tightened it up properly then refitted the vent pipe and it all seems ok now but steve will know for sure once it’s been in the garage a while
