🚗 Important update: Driving test booking changes coming in 2026
The DVSA has announced some changes to how driving tests can be booked and managed. These won’t all take effect straight away, but it’s useful to be aware of what’s coming.
What’s changing?
📅 Who can book your test
• Currently: You or your driving instructor
• From later in spring 2026: Only you will be able to book your test
🛠️ Who can manage your test (changes, cancellations, etc.)
• Currently: You or your driving instructor
• From later in spring 2026: Only you
🔁 Number of changes allowed
• Currently: Up to 6 changes
• From 31 March 2026: Only 2 changes
📍 Where you can move your test to
• Currently: Any test centre
• From later in spring 2026: Only test centres near the one originally booked
🔄 What counts as a “change”
• Currently: Changing the date, time, or test centre
• From later in spring 2026: Changing the date, time, test centre or swapping with another learner
📌 Exact dates (except the 31 March 2026 change) will be confirmed closer to the time.
