BDL Driver Training

BDL Driver Training I've been in driver training since 2005. I pride myself on tailoring lessons to the individual as everyone learns differently.

In that time I've helped hundreds of people pass the driving test, instructor tests and other more advanced driving tests.

Something so many fail to understand and this video explains it well. Now I'm not one for blindly accepting Internet advice but this guy is good. Always good. Unfortunately if you're a bungalow you'll disagree but disagreeing means you're disagreeing and still wrong. Don't be a bungalow.

When you drive a car or own a car you're in a relationship with it. No two relationships are the same. You'll find that, like human relationships, the basic parts are all the same or very similar but the subtle differences need to be identified for a successful relationship. As people we require individual things in a relationship. We also learn as we go in relationships with people. Time changes us. Cars are like people and all basically the same but subtly different. They share similar features some of which are basic like wheels and basic controls but they all behave differently. The brakes will feel different. Biting points in a manual will feel different. The ancillary controls like windscreen wipers and lighting will need individual treatment. Cars are all different weights and with varying power. They accelerate differently and slow differently. Height is different. Rear wheel drive or front wheel drive need specific techniques. Visibility varies wildly in cars. Noise levels vary. Some are more comfortable. Some are more forgiving. Some cars are very high maintenance. Some are the opposite. All cars will last longer if you treat them well. Look after them. Care for them. Show them some love. Finally remember that when you enter into a new relationship you'll need to suss out all the subtle changes. Get to know your new partner and never assume it'll be the same as the last one.

L plates and driving instructor roof signs are meant to make learner cars more visible — a clear signal to give space, be patient, and expect caution.
Too often, they seem to make those cars invisible instead: tailgated, cut up, honked at, and pressured for not driving like someone with 20 years’ experience.
A learner sign should trigger awareness, not aggression.
A little patience costs nothing — but it can make someone’s first experiences on the road safer and far less stressful.
See the L plate.
See the roof sign.
Act like you actually saw them.

At BDL Driver Training, we understand that life happens — but 12 cancelled or missed lessons is simply unacceptable.
Every lesson slot is time set aside for your progress, your instructor’s schedule, and other learners waiting for availability. Repeated cancellations and no-shows don’t just delay your own driving journey — they impact everyone.
Learning to drive takes commitment, consistency, and respect for booked time.
✅ Turn up prepared
✅ Give proper notice if you need to cancel
✅ Treat every lesson as an investment in your future
Success on the road starts with reliability off it.
At BDL Driver Training, we’re committed to helping dedicated learners pass safely and confidently — but commitment has to work both ways.
