⚠️ Weather Warning: Yellow Thunderstorms – Wed & Thu
The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for thunderstorms across our area for tomorrow (Wed) and Thursday, with a risk of sudden downpours, surface water flooding, and lightning.
If you're driving, please take extra care — and never drive through floodwater. Here's why:
🚗 It doesn't take much water to move a car. Just 30cm (about a foot) of fast-flowing water can float and sweep away most cars, including 4x4s
🚗 You can't judge depth by eye. Floodwater is often opaque, hiding dips, missing manhole covers, or debris — and depth can vary hugely across a road in seconds.
🚗 Engine damage. Water sucked into the engine's air intake can cause instant, irreversible damage — an expensive mistake even in "shallow" floods.
🚗 Loss of control. Water reduces tyre grip and can cause "aquaplaning," where your car loses contact with the road entirely.
🚗 It's not just your car. Driving through floodwater creates a bow wave that can push water into nearby homes and shops.
Our advice: if you see a flooded road, turn around, find another route. It's never worth the risk.
