Can we fix this broken VW Amarok?!

£7K spent and 9 months spent off the road can we bring this broken Amarok back to life, and without replacing any parts!!!

This customer contacted us having had a Knightmare getting their Amarok fixed elsewhere.

We agreed to take a look and set about diagnosing the issue.

The vehicle originally suffered a snapped cambelt resulting in a replacement cylinder head being fitted. This got the vehicle running but it lacked performance (barely driveable). It then had a turbo fitted in an attempt to resolve the fault before the customer pulled the vehicle out the other garage and delivered it to us.

The fault? Incorrect valve timing on the replacement cylinder head that was fitted which turned out to be a non-genuine part!

We re-timed the head, fitted some new gaskets and the customers’ trusty old work-horse ran perfectly 👌🏻

Now whilst the previous garage didn’t do anything wrong, this is the risk when using non-genuine or internet based parts.

We only use genuine OEM parts or those bought from our trusted network of suppliers, that way guaranteeing the right part for the job without the headaches!!

Needless to say the customer was very pleased to finally have the Amarok back on the road after almost a year.

2020 Seat Leon in for an SOS system fault.

We are starting to see a number of SOS system failures across the range as these cars start to age.
SOS systems were made mandatory back in 2018 with many customers not even realising their vehicle has the system fitted until a warning light come on ⚠️

Luckily this one was straight forward and just needed a replacement backup battery and subsequent setup procedure carrying out to complete the repair.
Just as well as the SOS module costs over £900!! Plus fitting and programming.

Audi A7 3.0T in for replacement 48volt alternator.

These high-power alternators in late models fitted with Audi’s 48 volt mild hybrid system are prone to failure.
Despite Audi issuing an extended 7 year warranty on these alternators on many models this unfortunate customers vehicle was not covered.

We supplier and fitted genuine OEM replacement unit and managed to successfully charge the 48v battery back to full health before releasing the vehicle back the customer.

Volkswagen T5 bi-turbo in for the dreaded EGR cooler assembly!!

For those that don’t know, the EGR coolers on these earlier bi-turbo CFCA- engined vans commonly fail and have the ability to wreck engines.

The original design means that the internal cooling fins corrode and fall apart and then circulate into the vehicles oil system via the oil cooler which is part of the EGR cooler (great design VW 👏🏻).

We supplied and fitted a genuine OEM revision ‘D’ EGR cooler assembly, carried out engine oil change and whilst we were in there the customer opted to have us replace the Cambelt and water pump , all with genuine OEM parts.

If you still have a bi-turbo T5 with anything but the latest D-revision EGR cooler then we strongly recommend getting it replaced asap,
Not a cheap job but still considerably cheaper than a new engine!!

Volkswagen T6 Camper Retrofit part 1:

A regular customer of ours approached us earlier in the year having just acquired this recently converted T6 camper van.
Unfortunately for them the build was based on an entry level spec van that amongst other things didn’t include air conditioning!
As the van was to be used for family camping trips including trips abroad the customer asked us if we could retrofit air conditioning, so we did!

After researching aftermarket kits we decided to source and install a full used OEM kit, coupled with some new key components and the results speak for themselves, a fully integrated, diagnostic capable OEM system complete with original switch panel!

❄️ Used OEM Climatic air conditioning system
❄️ OEM pipes routed in factory mounting points
❄️ Brand new compressor, condenser and seals throughout.
❄️ OEM wiring loom installed maintaining factory colours and aids fault finding if needed
❄️ OEM control panel used, no additional switches or drilling of dashboard required
❄️ Fullly integrated into vehicles CAN system allowing full OBD diagnostic capability

All installed, refrigerant circuit charged and system tested from our workshop in Redhill.

The van has been on several road trips since the install and the customer reports the air con has worked perfectly 👌🏻

Today’s lesson, buy cheap buy twice!!

This 2011 Skoda Fabia was originally in for some diagnostic work when we noticed a nasty rattle from the engine on cold start up.

Speaking to the customer and suggesting the fault was most likely related to the timing chain, they informed us that this had already been replaced less than two years ago 🤦🏻‍♂️

We rebooked the vehicle and fitted a complete OEM timing chain kit, following the manufacturer’s workshop procedure and completed the job with an oil change.

I spoke to the customer this morning and they have reported no more cold start rattle since collecting the car.

Whether it’s a humble runaround or a model worth twice as much, all vehicles deserve the same level of service and care.

The previous repairer tried to save the customer money the first time but ended up costing them more. Lesson learnt.

This Seat Leon came into VDS Performance with the engine management light on and lack of power.

Using our tried & tested diagnostic methods we quickly identified a wiring fault and traced it to a damaged / corroded wiring in the engine bay loom.
