Motorists are being advised to keep their vehicles serviced and MOT’d during the third national lockdown following confirmation earlier this week that garages can remain open.

The AA warns cars which are not being used at all due to the lockdown may be more in need of a service then vehicles which are regularly driven.

Jack Cousens, head of roads policy at the AA warned motorists that cars sat around for long periods of time “can lead to issues”.

He said: “With many people either working from home or furloughed, some drivers may be tempted to just let their vehicle bypass the MOT date and only arrange it when they think lockdown restrictions will be eased.

“However cars sat parked up for long periods of time can lead to issues such as; battery faults, seized brakes and flat tyres.

“These are just some of the reasons why it is just as important, if not more so, to keep your car regularly maintained.

“There will be no MOT extension this time around, so car owners will need to ensure they fulfil their usual maintenance commitments.

“Likewise, servicing timescales still apply to keep a vehicle under warranty.

Owner jump start his vehicle but got the jump leads the wrong way round and damaged the vehicle Engine control Unit.. A New control unit is over £1000.

Owner supplied a used unit and we managed to transfer all the security data from the damaged unit to the used unit saving him a fortune... Just one of the many jobs we can carry out in house..

We have introduced the following safety measures to ensure your safety:

A protective face screen has been fitted to the reception desk
A hand sanitiser gel station has been installed for customer use
We have medical grade plastic gloves available for customer use
We will sanitise your car keys before and after working on your vehicle
We will sanitise the door handles, steering wheel, hand brake and bonnet release catch before and after we work on your vehicle
We will sanitise the credit card machine between each customer
Our technician works alone in isolation greatly reducing infection risk
We will maintain contactless interaction at all times
We will observe the 2m social distancing rule by asking you to drop your car keys off in the box provided on the reception desk when leaving your car with us.
We will be using safety barriers to ensure no one enters the workshop or reception area without announcement so we can carefully monitor the social distancing rules
We are happy to accept online payments as an alternative to using cards

DROPPING YOUR VEHICLE OFF

We have introduced the following safety measures when dropping your vehicle off

Only 1 person in the reception area at any time
Please drop your keys in the drop box provided on the reception counter and step back observing the 2m rule
We will confirm your details with you and advise collection time
We will contact you when the vehicle is ready for collection
COLLECTING YOUR VEHICLE
Only 1 person in the reception area at any time
Your car keys will be placed in the drop box on the reception counter
Payment can be made in advance by card over the phone or online payment
We can also accept card payment in person and have medical grade gloves available to use when entering your PIN if required
