The second gear box under my bench for the past few years thought I may as well strip this one. Although it looks rough out side the inside was not that bad apart from the 8 mm of sludge in the bottom.
First look at part and just the normal problems. Good clean of case and remove idler bearing is next on the list.
Still got to strip out bearings from the MPI and this boxes transfer case and replace with new . Then I’ll start to rebuild and set idler in the next few weeks when time allows.

Well stripped the mpi gear box down and this is the parts I have to replace some due to butchering and just worn. Next is to clean and fully inspect all the remaining parts to make sure they are good enough to reuse.
The Case has lots of threads pulled and damaged over drilled to 3/8 ,sump plug on the verge of stripping idler thrust face damage could save case but not worth my time I’ll replace with another.

Had this MPI gear box under my bench for a long time thought I may as well strip and fully rebuild with new parts and sell with the transfer cover reconditioned and idler set up as I normally do for my reconditioned boxes.
This is not what I expected ! Will do photos of how it goes over the next few days and weeks just to show how many crap repairs I see on a normal simple rebuild . It’s been stripped for some reason in the past probably had a second gear problem as normal .

Second remote gear box rebuild now finished this one is for mk1 rally car with straight cut gear box and drop gears . But as normal nothing goes with out a hitch after failure of helicoil in diff case manage to remove and repair with a time sert. That was the second thread we had to repair with a time sert on this unit. Engine dropped back on gear box and off with customer to refit finish and finish off.
