Customer just bought this vehicle and noticed a horrible smell from outside. Before getting it on the ramp it was quite obvious what I was going to find but never have I seen someone do such a poor job of it. The DPF has been cut open to remove the internals and well I don’t even want to say welded back up 🥴maybe held together with pigeon poo would be more accurate then caked in exhaust paste to attempt to hide it. 🤠

With the DPF on this model being half way underneath the car it is very obvious what’s been done and wouldn’t pass a mot.

The MOT criteria states:
- Emission control equipment fitted by the manufacturer: missing, obviously modified or obviously defective.

- Evidence that the diesel particulate filter has been tampered with.

You have got to be so careful these days when buying a car as you really don’t know what you’re getting! 😬

Few air con jobs in last week, been regassed else where and not been pressure tested. Luckily it had had UV dye put in with the air con compressor oil which makes it easier to find!

To the naked eye you can’t see anything but soon as you use the UV torch and glasses it becomes very obvious!

Fiat 500L needed a new condenser
Skoda Fabia needed a new condenser
And the Nissan Juke required a new seal kit and pressure sensor.

The condenser sits at the front of the car behind the bumper so over time they get pelted with stones and take a beating not to mention the salt on the roads corroding them.

Vacuum tests can give untrue results as a small hole can be sealed in under vacuum so when it’s regassed and under pressure it leaks out.

The proper way to test before carrying out a regas is to pressurise the system checking for leaks.

When looking to get your Air con sorted it’s always worth asking if it’s just a “top up” or a proper test and service - cheapest ain’t always best 🤙🏻

Vw Passat 2.0 Tdi on 367,000 miles in for a new dual mass flywheel and clutch kit. It was the original parts removed which is incredible how it lasted so long. Only changed due to the dual mass flywheel rattling and concentric slave cylinder weeping. This vehicle does between 40,000 and 50,000 miles a year with on time servicing and just keeps on going. Drives like it’s done a fraction of the mileage!

The vehicle has also been remapped since 215,000 miles so just goes to show if you look after your vehicle it will look after you. I’m confident it’ll see 500k without any major repairs 🤞🏻

Another day another clutch to do, this VW Up was recovered in with the clutch slipping resulting in complete loss of drive! New clutch kit, release bearing fork and guide tube and gearbox oil. Back on the road driving better than ever.

A lovely BMW 640D in for 4 new mid range tyres, 400bhp + budget tyres + rear wheel drive is a recipe for disaster! Dangerously bald and illegal and the fronts had started to split on the sidewalls - you get what you pay for!

Another busy one in the workshop yesterday 👨‍🔧
This VW Passat came in for a full timing belt kit and water pump replacement, coolant flush, plus a new dual mass flywheel and clutch kit.

All completed the same day and ready for the customer to collect after work 👌🏻

It’s always great when the customer comes in and says they want it all doing properly!

Vw golf came in with both rear brakes binding, had glazed the pad faces which had started to crumble from over heating, both rear brake discs were reddy orange from over heating with blue heat marks to the disc faces. Both rear calipers had stuck on too and being electric they aren’t the cheapest to replace.
Whilst it was apart the customer asked for new brake disc backing plates as the old ones were looking tatty through the wheels.

Replaced the rear brake discs and pads with OE parts, 2 new electric rear brake calipers fitted and bled with a brake fluid flush to get the dirty old stuff out the system.

Road tested nicely with a firm pedal rechecked on the ramp and no brake bind at all. Another job done.

Vauxhall Crossland in for a new “wet belt” why any manufacturer thought it would be a good idea to run a rubber belt in engine oil is beyond me!

Just under 6 years old and 70,000 miles and it’s started to break up!

All genuine parts used for peace of mind.
Engine oil + filter
Timing belt kit with tensioner and idler
Inlet manifold gaskets
Rocker cover gaskets
Camshaft bolts x2
Crankshaft bolt
Waterpump belt

Also replaced the front brake discs and pads whilst it was in as they were advised on the mot in September and nearly worn out.

New shape Vw Caddy van dropped off 8am for new timing belt kit and electric waterpump, coolant change and bleed with diagnostics, full engine service, front brake disks and pads, rear brake pads, MOT test, new wiper blades and replace the horn. All done and ready to collect by the end of the day 😎

Customer was very happy with the service provided and expected it to take a few days! They also said the van hasn’t driven that well in years 👍🏻
