Renault Capture recovered in for loss of electric assisted steering.
Due to it not being a massively common problem and the vehicle over 10 years old main dealer no longer manufacture the part and is no stock anywhere! There answer, scrap the car and buy a new one 🤡

Because of the way this part is made it cannot be repaired either 😠

So the only option to keep the customer on the road was to get a decent second hand electric steering column motor from a reputable breakers yard who had tested it before removing.

After removing it all and installing the new one it turns out there’s a 4 part immobiliser due to it having a key card rather than a conventional key! The final part of the immobiliser is in the steering column 😤😅 I had to send the new / second hand part off to have it devirginised to remove all coding off the unit, once it was back I had to have a Renault specialist reinitialise it all with main dealer level diagnostic software to put the immobiliser coding onto the second hand part. And just like that Hey Presto, we have working electric assisted steering and a fully working car.

Some jobs can be a right headache but I’m not one to give up and I do love a challenge 😬

Customer just bought this vehicle and noticed a horrible smell from outside. Before getting it on the ramp it was quite obvious what I was going to find but never have I seen someone do such a poor job of it. The DPF has been cut open to remove the internals and well I don’t even want to say welded back up 🥴maybe held together with pigeon poo would be more accurate then caked in exhaust paste to attempt to hide it. 🤠

With the DPF on this model being half way underneath the car it is very obvious what’s been done and wouldn’t pass a mot.

The MOT criteria states:
- Emission control equipment fitted by the manufacturer: missing, obviously modified or obviously defective.

- Evidence that the diesel particulate filter has been tampered with.

You have got to be so careful these days when buying a car as you really don’t know what you’re getting! 😬

Few air con jobs in last week, been regassed else where and not been pressure tested. Luckily it had had UV dye put in with the air con compressor oil which makes it easier to find!

To the naked eye you can’t see anything but soon as you use the UV torch and glasses it becomes very obvious!

Fiat 500L needed a new condenser
Skoda Fabia needed a new condenser
And the Nissan Juke required a new seal kit and pressure sensor.

The condenser sits at the front of the car behind the bumper so over time they get pelted with stones and take a beating not to mention the salt on the roads corroding them.

Vacuum tests can give untrue results as a small hole can be sealed in under vacuum so when it’s regassed and under pressure it leaks out.

The proper way to test before carrying out a regas is to pressurise the system checking for leaks.

When looking to get your Air con sorted it’s always worth asking if it’s just a “top up” or a proper test and service - cheapest ain’t always best 🤙🏻

Vw Passat 2.0 Tdi on 367,000 miles in for a new dual mass flywheel and clutch kit. It was the original parts removed which is incredible how it lasted so long. Only changed due to the dual mass flywheel rattling and concentric slave cylinder weeping. This vehicle does between 40,000 and 50,000 miles a year with on time servicing and just keeps on going. Drives like it’s done a fraction of the mileage!

The vehicle has also been remapped since 215,000 miles so just goes to show if you look after your vehicle it will look after you. I’m confident it’ll see 500k without any major repairs 🤞🏻

Another day another clutch to do, this VW Up was recovered in with the clutch slipping resulting in complete loss of drive! New clutch kit, release bearing fork and guide tube and gearbox oil. Back on the road driving better than ever.

A lovely BMW 640D in for 4 new mid range tyres, 400bhp + budget tyres + rear wheel drive is a recipe for disaster! Dangerously bald and illegal and the fronts had started to split on the sidewalls - you get what you pay for!

Another busy one in the workshop yesterday 👨‍🔧
This VW Passat came in for a full timing belt kit and water pump replacement, coolant flush, plus a new dual mass flywheel and clutch kit.

All completed the same day and ready for the customer to collect after work 👌🏻
