Volvo XC40 in the workshop with no function of the steering wheel controls, wiper stalk, indicator stalk or headlights. Computer diagnostics showed no communication with steering column control module. Using the manufacturers wiring diagram we accessed the module, load tested the power and ground supply and used an oscilloscope to confirmed a Can Bus communication signal was present at this module.

We found there was no live supply to the module.

Testing the fuse that supplies the module showed battery voltage at the fuse.

After a bit of investigation this is what we found between the fuse and the module.

Wire repaired and all functions restored.

Interior is now being fully dried out and water ingress investigated.

More wiring issues today!
Citroen Berlingo in the workshop for a brake pedal switch fault.
Diagnostics showed no function of the brake pedal switch.

Diagnostics also showed a static fault code for the brake pedal switch.

Consulting the manufacturers wiring diagram and testing the readings at the plug for the brake pedal switch we could see there was only around 7v on the live feed to the brake pedal switch instead of the 12v+ battery live that should have been there.

This affected wire heads through the dash to a small splice connector then changes from yellow to blue, doubles back on itself through the wiring harness and out through the bulkhead and up behind the battery where it gets its power from a fuse.😅
The fuse was intact and there was a full 12v leaving the fuse down this wire.

We traced the fault to a section of this wire which was badly corroded in the wiring harness behind the battery.

Wire repaired, faults cleared, brake pedal switch tested .

All fixed!🙂

2015 Transit in today to diagnose and issue where it cuts out while driving and won't start or just won't start at all.
Computer diagnostics showed fault codes for low fuel pressure.
We first confirmed no power was reaching the fuel pump.
We then tested the fuse and the readings at the pins on the fuel pump relay and found no earth present on the switching side of the relay.
We consulted manufacturers wiring diagrams and traced the wire for the missing earth from the engine bay fuse box to a plug behind the passengers headlight where the wire had clearly corroded badly and all but detached from the plug.
We repaired the wire, retested the relay pins to confirm our switched earth was back and then road tested the vehicle.
All sorted! No more fuel pressure issues🙂

2006 Audi A4 3.0 v6 tdi in with a leaking oil cooler. We cleaned up the whole area and replaced all of the seals, gaskets and plastic components which are well known for leaking while we were in there. This is a fairly common but time consuming job on the v6 diesel unfortunately with seals beginning to leak in this area anywhere from around 70k miles and upwards.

Audi Q7 in today, automatic gearbox stuck in park. Computer diagnostics showed no communication with the transmission control module. We accessed the module under the drivers seat, using genuine Audi witing diagrams we tested powers, grounds and canbus communication wires. We found no power supply to the module, fuses were good so we traced the missing power to water ingress under the carpet causing this soldered joint in the main live supply to corroded and separate.
