Boat Charters Portsmouth Sailing in Alice from Portsmouth is a fantastic experience. A party up to 12 can enjoy a really good day or a week. Alice has cabins and bunks for 16. W.

Alice was built in 1954 as a steel, swim headed lighter, by J. Cook for Hubbocks, for whom she operated from the river Lea to the Lower Pool of London. At that time, she was towed or rowed. During the time she operated as a lighter, she was for a short time in the 1970’s used to supply the Pirate ship “Radio Caroline”. She was taken out of trade in 1994. Bought by Owen Emerson, he undertook very extensive work over the next 3 years. In 1998, with a refashioned bow and stern, all the necessary sailing, equipment, an engine and a fully fitted pine interior Alice was re-commissioned as a classic Thames Sailing Barge. Able to accommodate up to 40 people alongside the quay, or 12 when sailing, Alice has been owned since 2005 by the Gick family and operates in the Solent from Gun Wharf Quays, Portsmouth
