The Sports Personality Award recognises an individual aged 19 or over who has made a significant contribution to sport, either through personal achievement or through supporting others.
This award is not limited to athletes. It also recognises coaches, volunteers, organisers, and those working behind the scenes who play a vital role in developing sport and encouraging participation within their community. It reflects the wide range of ways individuals can positively influence sport, both on and off the field.
Recipients may have achieved success in competition, demonstrated exceptional commitment to training, or made a lasting impact through coaching, mentoring, or creating opportunities for others. Their contribution may be at any level, from grassroots involvement to elite performance, with equal value placed on dedication and influence.
In addition to their achievements, nominees often embody the core values of sport, including teamwork, perseverance, respect, and integrity. They may inspire others to get involved, support the development of others, or help create a positive and inclusive sporting environment.
The award celebrates not only performance, but the wider role sport plays in bringing people together and making a positive difference within communities.
