What is a Wet Belt?

A wet belt is a timing belt that operates inside the engine that is continuously submerged in engine oil.

What causes the failure of a Wet Belt?

Wet belt failure is caused by the deterioration of the belt via the following factors:
• Engine oil containing incorrect additives
• Engine oil contamination
• A lack of regular oil changes
• Low oil level
• Wear and tear on the belt
• High engine temperatures

What are the results of Wet belt failure?

The failure of a Wet Belt can cause catastrophic engine damage as the belt breaks up and blocks the oil strainer starving the engine and contaminating the remaining oil. Resulting in extremely high repair costs.

How Can I prevent Wet Belt Failure?

• Always follow your manufacturer's guidance for servicing
• Timing belt replacement intervals quoted by the manufacturer should be regarded as the MAXIMUM. Due to variations in vehicle usage and operating conditions the belt may need to be replaced earlier than specified.
• Always ensure that the correct engine oil, including additives, is used.
• Check your oil level regularly (oil level should only ever be between the minimum and maximum marker)
• If in doubt, have the belt replaced.

Nice to help out a local company today GTM Roofing and Building LTD with a broken glow plug. We managed to drill it out then tap and pull the reminder of the glow plug out. Replaced all 4 glow plugs and got the van back on the road. This saved thousands on having the cylinder head removed to carry out the repairs.

For all the problem jobs that other garages don’t want call Bell Lane Garage.
