🏠 REMOVING YEARS OF PAINT WITH DRY ICE 🧊💨

This week we’ve been dry ice blasting the front of this house to remove the old paint and give it a fresh start.

If this was being sand blasted, you’d normally be looking at scaffolding, sheeting/containment and a huge amount of dust, mess and secondary blasting media to clean up afterwards.

With dry ice blasting, there’s NO secondary waste from the blasting media.

🧊 No chemicals
🧊 No sand or blasting media left behind
🧊 No secondary blasting waste
🧊 Minimal mess compared with traditional abrasive blasting
🧊 Just compressed air and dry ice

And the best bit… the video was taken BEFORE we'd even cleaned up! 🤯

The dry ice pellets hit the surface and then sublimate — turning from solid CO₂ straight into gas. So unlike sand or other abrasive media, there’s nothing left behind from the dry ice itself. You’re only left with the material that’s actually been removed from the surface.

This has to be one of the weirdest phone calls I’ve ever had… 🤣

“Hi Paul, we’ve got 4 scrap Ford Fiestas and we need you to try and make them look glossy again.”

Okay… bit unusual, but no problem. 😂

Then came the next bit…

“They don’t run… and we’re going to fill them with water.” 🤣🌊

Right then! 😂

Turns out these aren’t just four old Fiestas. They’re part of Intertidal, a new public art project by internationally recognised British artist David Cotterrell.

The cars have been completely re-engineered with hidden reservoirs, pumps, sensors and digital controls so that the water level inside each car actually rises and falls with Plymouth’s tides. 🌊🚗

So our job was slightly different from the usual supercars, classics and detailing work…

Take four scrap Fiestas and somehow get them looking glossy enough to become pieces of public art! 😂✨

You can currently find them at Tinside Lido, Mount Batten, The Box Plymouth and Mount Edgcumbe, before they start appearing in different locations around Plymouth throughout September and October.

Definitely one of the strangest jobs we’ve been asked to do — but also one of the coolest.

Keep an eye out for them around Plymouth… they’re definitely not your average Ford Fiesta! 😂

🔥 Halfway through today’s dry ice blasting job! 🔥

This one’s a little different — working up in an attic that has suffered from fire and heavy smoke damage.

A lot of the timber beams aren’t damaged badly enough to justify replacing them, but let’s be honest… they don’t exactly look great, and they smell like burnt wood. Go figure 🤣

This is where dry ice blasting really comes into its own.

The dry ice doesn’t just clean the surface of the timber. The pellets hit the surface at around -78.5°C, helping to break the bond between the soot, smoke contamination and the timber. The impact then lifts the contamination away without soaking the wood with water or leaving abrasive blasting media behind.

By removing the soot, carbon and smoke residue that holds that burnt smell, we’re attacking the actual source of the odour rather than simply trying to mask it with chemicals or fragrances.

And because dry ice sublimates — turning directly from a solid into a gas — there’s no secondary blasting media left behind, which is a massive advantage when working somewhere like an attic.

Back tomorrow to carry on with this one, but already very impressed with the results. 👌

This Mercedes E-Class Cabriolet came in to chat about ceramic coating. After discussing exactly what the client wanted and the budget they wanted to stick to, we came up with a package that delivered the best possible results without compromising on quality.

One thing I always say is don't be afraid to tell me your budget. Not everyone wants or needs a full correction, and I'm more than happy to work with you to put together a package that gives you the best value and the best results within your budget.

As always, preparation is everything.

The paintwork received a two-stage machine polish. We started with an aggressive cutting stage to remove as many defects as possible, followed by a lighter cutting and refining stage to remove any hazing left from the initial cut while bringing back the depth, clarity and gloss.

The finish was then protected with Feynlab Original Ceramic Coating, providing up to 12 months of durable protection, fantastic gloss and making future maintenance much easier.

Yes, I offer some incredible full correction packages that achieve stunning results, but I also understand that everyone has a different budget. My goal is always to give you the best finish possible for what you want to spend—without ever cutting corners.
