Another Mercedes… and another centre console coming out 🤣🔧

This time though, we’re replacing it rather than removing overspray, so thankfully a tad quicker than the last one!

While it was with us, we also supplied and fitted a new rear window spoiler, giving the back end a nice little upgrade 👌

It’s not always just detailing here at Mr Buff. If something needs removing, replacing, fitting or just sorting properly while the car is with us, we’re always happy to get stuck in.

Out with the old, in with the new… and everything fitted back together properly. 👌

🔧 C63 S in this week for the Mr Buff “put it right” touch…

This one started off as a simple job — replace the rear F1-style brake light.

But on inspection, I quickly noticed the rear diffuser hadn’t been installed correctly. Everything was loose, parts had been bodged during the original installation, and one of the car’s expensive optional extras wasn’t even working properly.

The client had already bought another diffuser, but we both agreed the original one suited the car far better. So rather than just chucking another diffuser on it, I used parts from the new kit along with the new light to rebuild and correctly install the original setup. 👌

One of the biggest problems was the kick sensor / hands-free boot release. The section that holds the loom and sensor module wasn’t even attached to the bumper properly — it had basically been left attached to the body of the car instead. 🤦‍♂️

No wonder it was never going to work properly!

While we were there, we also installed a fresh set of exhaust tips, finishing the rear end off nicely. 🔥

Everything has now been properly mounted, secured and fitted as it should have been in the first place. The kick sensor is working again and, most importantly, no more rattles. 😂

Although, to be fair, you probably couldn't hear them anyway over that big V8 twin-turbo soundtrack! 🔥🤣

Sometimes it's not about fitting new parts — it's about taking the time to work out what's wrong and put it right.

🏠 REMOVING YEARS OF PAINT WITH DRY ICE 🧊💨

This week we’ve been dry ice blasting the front of this house to remove the old paint and give it a fresh start.

If this was being sand blasted, you’d normally be looking at scaffolding, sheeting/containment and a huge amount of dust, mess and secondary blasting media to clean up afterwards.

With dry ice blasting, there’s NO secondary waste from the blasting media.

🧊 No chemicals
🧊 No sand or blasting media left behind
🧊 No secondary blasting waste
🧊 Minimal mess compared with traditional abrasive blasting
🧊 Just compressed air and dry ice

And the best bit… the video was taken BEFORE we'd even cleaned up! 🤯

The dry ice pellets hit the surface and then sublimate — turning from solid CO₂ straight into gas. So unlike sand or other abrasive media, there’s nothing left behind from the dry ice itself. You’re only left with the material that’s actually been removed from the surface.

This has to be one of the weirdest phone calls I’ve ever had… 🤣

“Hi Paul, we’ve got 4 scrap Ford Fiestas and we need you to try and make them look glossy again.”

Okay… bit unusual, but no problem. 😂

Then came the next bit…

“They don’t run… and we’re going to fill them with water.” 🤣🌊

Right then! 😂

Turns out these aren’t just four old Fiestas. They’re part of Intertidal, a new public art project by internationally recognised British artist David Cotterrell.

The cars have been completely re-engineered with hidden reservoirs, pumps, sensors and digital controls so that the water level inside each car actually rises and falls with Plymouth’s tides. 🌊🚗

So our job was slightly different from the usual supercars, classics and detailing work…

Take four scrap Fiestas and somehow get them looking glossy enough to become pieces of public art! 😂✨

You can currently find them at Tinside Lido, Mount Batten, The Box Plymouth and Mount Edgcumbe, before they start appearing in different locations around Plymouth throughout September and October.

Definitely one of the strangest jobs we’ve been asked to do — but also one of the coolest.

Keep an eye out for them around Plymouth… they’re definitely not your average Ford Fiesta! 😂

🔥 Halfway through today’s dry ice blasting job! 🔥

This one’s a little different — working up in an attic that has suffered from fire and heavy smoke damage.

A lot of the timber beams aren’t damaged badly enough to justify replacing them, but let’s be honest… they don’t exactly look great, and they smell like burnt wood. Go figure 🤣

This is where dry ice blasting really comes into its own.

The dry ice doesn’t just clean the surface of the timber. The pellets hit the surface at around -78.5°C, helping to break the bond between the soot, smoke contamination and the timber. The impact then lifts the contamination away without soaking the wood with water or leaving abrasive blasting media behind.

By removing the soot, carbon and smoke residue that holds that burnt smell, we’re attacking the actual source of the odour rather than simply trying to mask it with chemicals or fragrances.

And because dry ice sublimates — turning directly from a solid into a gas — there’s no secondary blasting media left behind, which is a massive advantage when working somewhere like an attic.

Back tomorrow to carry on with this one, but already very impressed with the results. 👌
