BMW X5 came in with complaints it was cutting out at ‘high speed’ (i wont tell you how high 😂).
It was one of those jobs where it had been tinkered and poked with quite a bit, so i needed to approach this one carefully to make sure everything i do is correct to get the best outcome possible.
So i suggested as the fuel filter and basic things had already been tried, that we take the injectors out and have them sent away to be tested. This was an ordeal as they were seized in there, meaning i had to use a slide hammer, but the whole scuttle/bulkhead needed stripping down to get good access. During the teardown i noticed the inlet manifold was coked up and there was oil everywhere, i suggested we fit a new seal kit which the customer supplied. I was asked to fit a new glow plug module whilst there as its just below the inlet manifold anyway.
Injectors all had leakback issues, spray pattern issues and injector 6 had a solenoid fault, so all 6 were fully reconditioned (as photographed).
The major cleanup was the inlet manifold, which i steam cleaned inside out, the throttle body and EGR valve, and other fittings and pipes to be cleaned up ready for refitting.
With the new injectors in, a new set of cabin filters, an air filter, lovely clean inlet manifold, and glow plug module, everything went back together lovely and it now runs like a dream. I did indeed code the injectors in too.
As the customer is picking up later in the week ive postponed the engine bay and exterior wash until pickup, but im glad to see the back of this one and have my ramp back 😂👌
