Why We Won’t Be Offering Boot Glitch Unlocks (For Now)

Following the recent release of Boot Glitch support, we carried out our own in-house testing and spoke directly with Magic Motorsport’s technical support.

During testing, we were unable to successfully unlock a Hardware 80 Bosch MD1CS004 ECU. Fortunately, after reassembling the ECU and reinstalling it in the vehicle, it started and operated normally with no lasting issues.

That experience reinforced our decision not to offer this service at the present time.

Modern ECUs like the MD1CS004 are not older EDC15 or EDC16 units. These are sophisticated, dealer-supplied ECUs that can cost close to £2,000, and if one were to become unusable, there is also the additional cost and time involved in replacing and programming the new ECU to the vehicle.

The Boot Glitch process also requires extremely fine micro-soldering on very small components. While we have the skills and equipment to carry out this type of work, the components are incredibly delicate, and any procedure involving this level of soldering carries an inherent risk of damage.

After weighing everything up, we believe the potential risk outweighs the benefit for our customers.

For that reason, Helix Performance Solutions will not be offering Boot Glitch unlocking at this time.

Where possible, we believe bench and bench-mail unlock methods remain the preferred solution, as they do not require opening the ECU or carrying out micro-soldering, making them a significantly lower-risk option.

We’ll continue to monitor developments and carry out further testing as the technology evolves. If reliability reaches a level we’re happy to stand behind, we’ll review our decision.

Our priority has always been the same: protecting our customers’ vehicles before offering the latest technology.

Helix Passat maintenance day.

In between customer jobs, we’ve been giving one of our own workhorses some overdue attention.

Since bringing the Helix Passat into service, the air conditioning has never worked. In normal weather it was manageable, but with this heatwave it finally became too much to ignore.

Diagnosis pointed us towards the condenser, so we ordered a replacement, got it fitted, and started working through the checks properly rather than just throwing gas in and hoping for the best.

It is easy to forget that the vehicles we rely on every day need the same level of care and attention we give to customer cars.

A bit of downtime put to good use.

As many of you know, this is an exciting time for the industry, with a lot happening at the moment.

Unfortunately, due to an unexpected family emergency, I need to take some annual leave over the next couple of weeks.
