With Japanese cars of the 90's & 00's becoming ever more popular and prices steadily rising, we have noticed a large influx of these in to our workshop.

It's worth ensuring that if you choose to invest in your dream JDM icon, that you're aware of what could be lurking beneath the facade....

The photos show three popular models of Japanese marques: Nissan Silvia, Subaru Impreza and Mazda RX7, all examples were road going, and had little or no mention of corrosion on MOT's. During our inspection process (if you're interested in this service, please contact us) we provide our clients with a catalogue of images, and the posted pictures show a small snippet of what we found - corroded sills, subframe mounts almost useless, seams with corrosion both in and on them, amongst other issues.

A simple wire brush, corrosion converter and cover over with underseal will not fix such issues. At best this will help slow the progression of corrosion, but in some instances, it can make the situation worse, corrosion is parasitic and must be removed to the fullest extent to give your beloved car the best chance of long-term survival - a 'quick' fix will likely rear its ugly head in the future.  If you're choosing to buy any vehicle, don't always take the MOT as a given, and approach it with healthy scepticism and the willingness to look beyond the shiny visible bodywork - especially if your chosen car has the propensity to rust!

Project Little Blue's rear valance gathering momentum.

With the exhaust cut outs bevels dressed in by hand, and the panel edges turned and dressed in for rigidity, it's time to start working on the hand form right lower quarter to follow the contours around the back of the car.

Project Update:

Work on ‘Little Blue’ presses on and matures daily.

With adaptations to a select few chassis sections complete, custom hinges made for the GRP bonnet (mock fitted only), and the roof chop (which was in place before our client even owned the car) now tidied up at the rear with a pair of custom hand formed 1/4 to roof inner and outer sections.

Our team have been working to modify our client’s preferred rear arches incorporating them in to the overall design. A custom frontal 1/4 section with a formed in swage and lower 1/4 to valance sections have been created to allow the wider shoulders of the car flow in to the Anglia’s slimmer frame. Mocking these up in place allows us to see the project unfold and with a move to fabricating the rear valance, shows the panels in a state of semi-flux so adaptations or alterations can be made to suit.

More to come.
