We had this lovely bright blue motor in from Birmingham today for its annual check-up. I was just saving the workshop record as 34.jpg on our system, and it’s a perfect example of why getting a vehicle properly up in the air is so vital. When it's raised right up on the garage lifts, we can get right underneath to inspect the suspension, check the exhaust mounts, and spot tiny leaks before they turn into major roadside breakdowns. A quick look underneath genuinely saves you a fortune in the long run.

We see it all the time with the state of the roads around Dudley and Quinton right now. A regular brought their motor in this morning after a nasty bump. Getting it up on the ramps and having a proper look underneath with a torch is the only way to see what's really going on. I was just attaching the visual inspection record, to their digital health check. Thankfully, it was just a loose piece of plastic undertray rather than a bent suspension arm!

Ever get that slight sinking feeling when a warning light suddenly pings on your dashboard mid-journey?

We had a local driver from Smethwick in this week absolutely dreading a massive repair bill after their engine light came on. We got the motor straight up on the ramps and popped the bonnet to investigate. I was actually just saving the diagnostic log as Highpoint.jpg on our office PC, and it reminded me how often this happens. It turned out to be nothing more than a loose sensor clip that took two minutes to secure! Modern cars have so many sensors that sometimes they're just a bit too clever for their own good.
