We replaced the timing belt on this Golf yesterday. When we turned up the customer reported that it had been loosing coolant and dripping from the left hand side of the engine bay. A quick pressure test once the covers were off confirmed it was the water pump leaking. As a timing belt replacement uses a comprehensive kit including a new water pump this secondary issue was rectified as part of the originally quoted job.

We went a bit further than usual today. Down to Brixham to replace the timing chain on a VW Golf, it was rattling to the point the customer was concerned about driving it, now its lovely and quiet. The job went well so we finished off the day with an ice cream down at the harbour 🍦👌

Here's a belt we done last week, when we removed the covers we could see that the old belt was cracked all the way around. On closer inspection it appeared to be the original belt on what was quite a high mileage vehicle. The customer was very fortunate that it hadn't broken causing catastrophic engine damage.

This is why at MMS Mobile Mechanic we always replace the auxiliary drive belt when doing a timing belt. Here's 2 separate auxiliary belts that were replaced this week as part of timing belt jobs. One of them had worn so badly that it was actually splitting in two.
