☀️🔥 EXTREME HEAT – PLEASE TAKE CARE TODAY 🔥☀️
It’s going to be exceptionally hot today, and while many of us will want to enjoy the sunshine, these temperatures bring some serious risks.
🚒 Help us prevent fires:
🔥 Avoid bonfires and campfires – vegetation is extremely dry and a small fire can spread quickly.
🍖 Take extra care with BBQs and never use them on dry grass or in woodland.
🚬 Dispose of ci******es properly – never throw them from vehicles or onto the ground.
🍾 Take your rubbish home. Glass bottles can contribute to fire risk and broken glass is dangerous.
🚗 Never leave children or pets in parked vehicles, even for a short time.
💧 Look after yourself, each other and your pets:
🥤 Drink plenty of water and stay hydrated.
🌳 Stay out of direct sunlight where possible, particularly during the hottest part of the day.
🧴 Wear sunscreen, a hat and lightweight clothing.
👵 Check on elderly or vulnerable relatives, friends and neighbours.
🐕 Think twice before walking your dog in the heat. Walk them early in the morning or later in the evening when it’s cooler, provide plenty of fresh water and shade, and remember that hot pavements can burn their paws. If in doubt, skip the walk – missing one won’t hurt them, but exercising in extreme heat could.
🌊 Thinking of cooling off?
Please resist the temptation to jump into unfamiliar rivers, lakes or quarries. Cold water shock can affect even strong swimmers. Choose a lifeguarded or supervised swimming area wherever possible.
🔥 With the ground exceptionally dry, one careless action can start a fire that spreads incredibly quickly, putting people, wildlife, property and our firefighters at risk.
Enjoy the weather, but please do it safely. ☀️🚒
If you see a fire, get to a safe place, call 999 and use what.3.words.
