So, pressure testing the petrol tanks for the TR6 and T120 Bonneville today. Good news is that there are no leaks in either of them which is a massive relief. They're now going for chemical stripping and de- rusting at Prostrip in Nottingham as there is quite a bit of rust inside the TR6 tank and the Bonnie has the remnants of an old liner inside it. Then I'll pressure test them again and assuming they're both OK it will be off to the paintshop. Exciting times!

Been doing a bit of pre assembly work on the T120 project today. I'm hoping to get the bodywork for the T120 and TR6 away for painting in the not too distant future, so wanted to trial fit the rear mudguard, oil tank and battery box. Good job I did as well as there is quite a bit of fettling to do to ensure that they fit correctly and don't foul each other.

Finished off making the replacement sidestand lug for the TR6 today. Without access to a milling machine it's the best I can do with files and a hacksaw, and save having an old frame to bastardise, it's the closest I can get to an original looking repair. The final two photos show an original lug which I photographed and measured for reference. Just hoping I can now weld it to the original frame boss without affecting the brazing too much. It will probably require short stitches with time to cool in between. These old bikes can be quite trying at times!

It's been a while since I've had chance to get in the garage, but yesterday I started to make up the replacement sidestand lug for the TR6. Quite a bit more to do on it, but once I can get his sorted and welded to the frame, I can get it over to the powder coaters.

I think I might have a problem. As if I don't have enough projects on the go, I've managed to pick up another. This time it's a 1967 Triumph TR6C. It's been repatriated from the States where its spent all of its life probably being thrashed around the warm and dry deserts of southern California. I've decided that I will rebuild it in the same vein as a desert sled. Its not going to be text book original, but will have some nice little touches to make it a nice looking little daily hack. Watch this space.....

Had a much needed workshop tidy up today. It's amazing how something like that can re-ignite the enthusiasm. Ducati cafe racer project nearing dry build completion now ready for a winter strip and 'finish' rebuild.

A bit of a change from the road bikes. Project YZ 250 is due to commence shortly at Cookie Bill's. This will be a 'sympathetic refresh' of a 1991 Yamaha Super Evo YZ250 motocross bike. Repainted frame and swingarm, replated fasteners, new plastics and graphics and a good spruce up. It's a bike that was imported from Japan and has done very little work from new. I think it would be a hard task to find one in such excellent original condition as this, which is why the restoration work will be kept to an absolute minimum.

Made up the alloy shroud plate today to fill the gap at the front of the tank. Bit of CAD (cardboard aided design) employed to get the basic shape and then a whole load of 'fit, mark, fettle, retry'. I'll skin the top side in carbon fibre to finish it off, so a bit more to do, but generally quite happy with it so far.

One of my pet hates this week - fibreglassing. Extended the seat unit and filled in the fork scallops on the front mudguard. Both items dressed up and profiled. I'm quite pleased with the way the seat unit has married up to the tank. I've also re profiled and fitted the alloy seat base. It's a slow process but I'm slowly getting there!

Started to make up the tank outlet boss on the lathe today. The 999 tank I bought didn't come with the pump assy and they are mega expensive to buy second hand. I also don't need an 'in tank' pump, so I'm making up a billet outlet plate which can then be fitted with a tap of my choice. Just hope it seals!

First mock up of the new front mudguard bracket. It still needs finishing, but it's surprisingly sturdy and very minimalistic, which is what I was looking for. The blade mudguard is from a Triumph scrambler and fits the theme of the bike well. It looks better 'biased' to the front of the wheel, so I will have to fibreglass and fill the standard fork cutouts. I think I will also re-shape the nose a bit, but in general I'm quite pleased with it so far.
