One of the most common ways learners lose marks on their test — and it catches people out on every single route.

Parked vehicles. Here’s exactly how to handle them:

1️⃣ Approach and get back one car length before you start to move out
2️⃣ Check your centre mirror, then your right mirror, before pulling out
3️⃣ Leave at least a metre gap between you and the parked car — more if you can
4️⃣ If there’s oncoming traffic, stay close to the centre line without crossing it and hold back a car length until it’s clear
5️⃣ Once you’re past, check your centre mirror then your left mirror before coming back in
6️⃣ Only come back in once you’ve left a full car length past the parked vehicle

This isn’t specific to one road. It can catch you out anywhere in Nottingham.

Parallel parking doesn’t have to be the one that trips you up. Here’s how to nail it every time:

1️⃣ Pull up alongside the car in front of the space — about a metre out, roughly level with it
2️⃣ Check mirrors, signal left, reverse slowly — turn the wheel once to the left as the car angles in
3️⃣ Check your position — you’re aiming for roughly 45° to the kerb
4️⃣ At that angle, turn the wheel once to the right as you get closer to the kerb
5️⃣ Reverse until your left side is above the kerb
6️⃣ Turn the wheel once to the left — wheels straight, you’re in

Take it slow, check constantly, and it becomes second nature.
