Busy couple of weeks since our last update
More work on the Citroen C2 engine change, one of our regular customer's had his track spec Mx5 in for some brake, suspension and service work and a Porsche 996 for some service and rectification work.

Update on the modified Citroen C2 1.6 engine.
We reassembled the cams in the head with a nice bead of sealant as per spec
Due to the further head skim and the high lift cams, we devised a system of putting 0.5mm shim washers to emulate the head gasket on some modified old head bolts to act as guides and nipped it up and timed the cams so we could carefully turn the engine over and check piston to valve clearance. It passed 👍

So, head removed, surfaces cleaned/degreased and head refitted and torqued up the timing done again and clearance checked again

It has been brake week correcting bad work by others

Renault Wind Gordini with a rear brake issue. Had rear brakes done not that long ago as pads were hardly worn. The caliper carrier shims were missing, presumably as the previous mechanic couldn't be bothered to clean up the rust behind them to make room for the new pads to slide in so left them out making the pad not sit on the disc properly.
Also found the os caliper had it's handbrake spring missing and piston tight
So new discs, pads, carrier shims and caliper all fitted properly and it was sorted

Next up was a cool Kia Stinger. Again had recent front brakes, but a vibration had appeared. Customer suspected brake pad material transfer, but it failed a Dti trueness test so stripped and found that the hub face had not been cleaned properly when the discs were fitted so was probably out of true slightly and had just exaggerated with heat. Also stainless steel pad shims were missing!
Hubs linished back properly, then new discs and pads. Road test showed no vibration.

Cleaning disc/pad contact points properly takes a bit of time, but allows everything to work as intended to avoid premature repeat work. An extra 30 mins or so on the bill to do the job properly is surely better than having to pay to have the job done again!

Good bottom end cleaned up, new crank seals and clutch and back on the gearbox yesterday.

In the cosy engine build room today cleaning the old uprated cylinder head and cams up ready for reasembly after a light skim to clean up

A car we built has returned after 16 years!

I built this little Citroen C2 only a few years after i started the business.

I was commissioned to build it by a lovely chap from Singapore with a a fairly high goal.

This was the 110hp Vtr version with the robotised manual gearbox with paddles as opposed to the Vts that had a fully manual box and 125hp so I had a challenge on my hands to get some decent power out of it.

I stripped the head off the low mileage engine, got it skimmed and professionally ported, fitted some uprated cams and vernier pulleys so the cam timing could be optimised

We then had a challenge with mapping as rhe robotised gearbox and engine ecu were linked and unlike the manual version could not be mapped. We went for a Unichip piggyback ecu that taps into necessary signals to/from the ecu to adjust timing, fuel etc..

I made a custom induction kit and we trieda few different exhaust manifold/system combinations along with a sports cat to get the right balance of power and torque and ended up with just over 160 hp iirc. Customer was very happy.

We uprated the suspension with Koni adjustable, uprated the brakes and put lightweight Team Dynamics wheels that he asked me to paint the letters in silver. They are still as good after all these years.

Now, the car has changed hands a few times and not been looked after. Someone has changed the cambelt and messed up the timing damaging the bottom end of the engine. Luckily, I think the special head/cams are ok .

I have to source another engine with as little miles as possible for the bottom end and build it up again with the timing correct of course!
