3/7. “Is that a fu***ng Sub?”
Last year my trusty T5 transporter went to the van graveyard, leaving me vehicle-less for 18 months. Setting objectively pointless goals is something I do frequently, one of these goals was to go a whole year with just a bicycle. Honestly I really enjoyed biking everywhere, and it made me set a new goal of riding the 390 Adventure to all the BSB rounds(I made it half way through the year which did include the 800 mile rounds trip to Knock Hill!).
That brings us to the present day, I set another goal(shock) to get myself another van for under £1500. Anyone who has looked at the van market recently will know this is a tall order. Less than a week later a good customer slipper into convocation he was getting rid of this 24 year old, 175,000 mile gem! So of course I bought it blind.
Upon delivery( under £1500 and delivery included, I should have bought a lottery ticket) the side door was slid open to reveal, amongst the slightly ‘murder room’ feeling drooping carpet, a Sub-woofer! “I was going to keep it, but it was more work to remove it, so you can have it”.
I wasn’t impressed with sound systems when I was a teenager and I’m less impressed now, but what the hell I might aswell use it! Fast forward to today, driving home from a quick spin around Thetford Forest, I remembered back to a festival last year in which Kings Of Leon where playing. Honestly a band I don’t have much interest in, but was enjoying nonetheless. That was until the second to last song, Closer. Live this song sounded awesome, you could just feel it pulsing through your chest. ‘I can replicate that with my sub!’
So I’ll leave you with this image, a 31 year old bold man, driving a knackered old van with a massive sub that’s playing Kings Of Leon obscenely loud. 🫡
