What are the Signs Your Cam Belt or Wet Belt May Need Replacing 🤔

A cam belt or wet belt can deteriorate with age and mileage, and in some cases there may be little or no warning before the belt fails. This is why following the manufacturer’s recommended replacement interval is so important.

However, there are some signs that could indicate a problem with the timing belt system, including:

✔️ Unusual rattling, ticking, or knocking noises from the engine
✔️ Difficulty starting the vehicle
✔️ Engine misfiring or running roughly
✔️ Loss of engine performance
✔️ Poor or uneven engine running
✔️ Unusual noises from the timing belt area
✔️ Oil contamination or leaks
✔️ Warning lights on the dashboard
✔️ Visible signs of belt deterioration, where the belt can be inspected

With wet belts in particular, deterioration of the rubber belt can result in debris entering the engine oil and potentially restricting the oil pickup or lubrication system. If this happens, it can lead to reduced oil circulation and potentially serious engine damage.
