When we said these plates were unique, we weren’t kidding.

Our customer recently shared these fascinating photographs taken by her great-grandfather, showing just how special these registration numbers really are – and just how far back they date.

The images feature the registrations U 57 and U 58, both incredibly early Leeds registrations. In fact, the "U" series was issued in the very first years of the UK registration system, making these plates well over a century old.

It’s not often you get to see historic registrations still appearing in family photographs decades after they were first issued. These pictures provide a wonderful glimpse into the history behind some of Leeds’ earliest number plates and the stories they carry.

What makes these registrations even more remarkable is that both U 57 and U 58 are currently available for sale.
