Last Friday, Scott passed his LGV category C+E module 3a off-road manoeuvres test at his first attempt, with a nice and controlled reverse and a safe and efficient uncouple and recouple of the trailer. Regrettably, I forgot to take any pictures on that day – I’m blaming the sunshine for this!
This morning, he passed his Driver CPC module 4 test with an unbeatable score of 100%, leaving just the module 3b on-road driving test to do!
So, we went out for a warm up drive, trying our best to miss the rush hour traffic, and getting back to the test station in good time for the final part of the trilogy........ And, Scott went and passed that one too, with a very respectable drive – one that his examiner commented that it was a very nice drive indeed!
Scott is familiar with loading and unloading lorries, as he has worked for the same company in the warehouse all his working life. However, there’s the threat of redundancy looming, as his bosses are looking at a total restructure, putting all of their goods through an internet based global online shopping platform, so they won’t need any of their existing warehouse team. He doesn’t have an exact date for his redundancy (there’s been two false deadlines already), but now, with his artic driving licence, he knows he has a secure future, albeit in a new role as a lorry driver!
We wish Scott all the best with his future in whatever career he chooses to take in the future.
There’s a really nostalgic part to this course....... I used to drive for Scott’s wife’s granddad many, many years ago, taking Volvo F10’s and F12’s with the 24 ton loads of plaster all safely roped and sheeted to 40’ flat bed trailers. All of the drivers were local people, many living in the village, so it was the norm for many to walk or cycle to work, then spend the week away in their cabs. I learnt a lot there from some very experienced, very, very old school, down to earth and exceptionally helpful drivers!

This morning, Jason passed his LGV category C+E on-road driving test at his first attempt, with almost a clear round (how fast are we allowed to drive in a 20mph limit Jason?🤭)! This follows his first time pass with his module 3a off-road manoeuvres test on Friday afternoon, when his assessor commented that it was an extremely professional demonstration of the reverse exercise and uncouple and recoupling of the trailer.
Jason had one of his driver training days uploaded as Driver CPC periodic training, saving him a day off work, either in a classroom or on an online meeting over the next five years.
Jason has used his category C licence driving a recovery vehicle, so he’s not new to manoeuvring a large vehicle around all sorts of obstacles to pick up stranded cars and vans, and also reversing a lorry with a car or a van on the spec lift on the back of it!
Jason is now working for a local, highly respected haulier, delivering all manor of commodities in an 18 tonne curtain sided vehicle. His boss knows a good colleague when he sees one, and is promoting him up to drive the category C+E vehicles, again on general haulage, and maybe on specialist contract work too.
Jason has been a star all through his course, working hard to achieve excellence in his driving, showing that common sense prevails at all times. His awesome, old school sense of humour has made the week fly by too!
We wish Jason all the best in his new role, and we look forward to seeing him out on the road in an artic very soon!

Last week, Elliott passed his LGV category C+E module 3b on-road driving test at his first attempt with an almost perfect score of just one driver fault (you are allowed up to thirteen!)! This followed his first time pass with his module 3a off-road manoeuvres test on the previous Friday.
Elliott's dad was a lorry driver for many years, driving for a local haulier, so it's very much in his blood already. In fact, as Elliott cadged a lift from his dad when he came for his assessment drive, to save him sitting in his car for two hours, he came out in the drive with us. It was good to hear some proper "Old school" comments regarding lorry driving, that I totally agreed with, and that Elliott took on board.
We wish Elliott all the best with his career change, and look forward to seing him out on the road very soon!

This morning, Sebastian passed his LGV category C module 3b on-road driving test at his first attempt, following his first time pass with his module 3a off-road manoeuvres test on Friday afternoon.
Sebastian is not new to being around lorries, as part of his current job duties include cleaning and valeting lorries, and therefore, he’s been driving them off-road, moving them from their parking space to the wash and valet area, and returning them, looking newer than a new lorry could ever possibly hope to look!
Now Sebastian has his category C licence, he will be able to collect and deliver lorries for services, MOT’s, road tests and delivering new vehicles to their new owners too, making him an even more versatile member of his work team.
While Sebastian has been driving in the UK for a great number of years now, it came as news to him that in the UK, we can take our driving tests in our own vehicles and really have the opportunity to show the examiner a proper driver who is properly familiar with their vehicle too.......... On a personal note, I am soooooo grateful to Sebastian that he knew how to drive my lorry, as when out on his on-road test, when negotiating a right hand turn in a dedicated lane, a motorist in the straight ahead lane to the left of my lorry suddenly decided to turn right, and cut from their lane into the right turn lane, straight in front of the lorry. Sebastian stamped on the brake, stopping the lorry within a foot of the driver’s door of the car....... the car driver continued on their way, totally oblivious of their lane change and quite how close they had got to being T b***d by an 18 tonne Scania! Seby, I owe you a brew for that!

This afternoon, Ellis passed his category C+E module 3b on-road driving test with a very good drive indeed. This follows his first time passes with his module 3a off-road manoeuvres test and his module 4 Driver CPC practical tests!
Ellis is not new to lorries, as he’s been helping his dad with his road sweeping business since..... oh, too long ago and he’s currently on a Scania apprentice scheme.
Ellis has used the ability to drive lorries before he has had his 21st birthday by passing his Driver CPC tests.

Before 9th of September 2009, if a driver wanted to drive lorries before they were 21 years of age, they would have to be enrolled on the “Young Driver Scheme” that was managed by Skills for Logistics on behalf of the Department for Transport , where a young driver could train for and pass a test to drive category C lorries at the age of 18, then after driving them for a minimum of six months and passing four assessment drives, could then train for a take the driving test for category C+E vehicles.
The Young Driver Scheme ceased to exist when the Driver CPC was introduced with every under 21 year old lorry driver being required to have their Driver CPC qualification regardless of whether they were driving in a professional or private capacity.

It’s been an absolute pleasure to have helped Ellis to gain his category C+E driving licence so he can take lorries out on road tests after he has serviced them and I look forwards to seeing him doing the odd shift or two on a road sweeper for his dad!

On Wednesday morning, Luke passed his LGV category C+E module 3b on-road driving test with just two driver faults. This follows his first time pass with his module 3a off-road manoeuvres test. Luke has had one of his driver training days uploaded as Driver CPC periodic training too, saving him a day in a classroom over the next five years too!
Luke passed his category C test last year but has been installing some pretty impressive camera systems in some pretty impressive vehicles, so hadn't managed to use his new licence. He's now had a quite change of career, and has been driving an es**rt vehicle behind large loads, keeping traffic in a safe position while the driver of the large load negotiates a vehicle the size of a bungalow on today's marvellous roads!
This has been a steep learning opportunity for Luke, and Luke's boss knows a good bloke when he meets one, so he suggested that it's time for Luke to move into a larger vehicle and drive the low-loader vehicles himself!
Luke has been a star all through his course, with the perfect sense of humour that goes with such specialist transport.
We wish Luke all the best with his step into special type low-loader transport, and we look forward to seeing him on the road in a very distinctive and highly specced lorry very soon!

On Wednesday, Branden passed his LGV category C on-road driving test at his first attempt! This followed his first time pass earlier that morning with his Driver CPC module 4 practical test with an unbeatable score of 100%! He also had a first time pass last Friday with his module 3a off-road manoeuvres test too!
So, three first time passes can't be bad!
Branden currently delivers brand new cars to dealers and customers, and sometimes brings back part exchange cars too, driving a 3.5 tonne car transporter, making every day at work, a new day with different challenges!
With cars generally getting bigger, hybrid engines, and the incredible extra weight of electric vehicles caused by their batteries, there are fewer and fewer cars that he can transport on his current vehicle without exceeding the 3.5 tonne gross weight.
So, Branden is moving up to the two and three car transporters that his employer runs, using his existing customer skills and knowledge of cars, but this time driving a larger vehicle to do it!
Branden has been an absolute star all through his course, and we look forward to seeing him on the road in his new lorry!

This morning, Mike passed his LGV category C+E module3b on-road driving test at his first attempt.
Mike used his experience of operating 360 machines and telehandlers in the building industry to his advantage and showed his examiner a good drive.
Last week, he passed his module 3a off-road manoeuvres test on his first attempt too!
As Mike passed his car test before 1997, he got acquired rights to category C1 but he needed his Driver CPC qualification to be able to use it in a professional capacity. So, last year, he passed his Driver CPC module 4 test at his first attempt too with us, and has been driving category C1 vehicles over the busy Christmas period and into the new year!
We wish Mike all the best with his new career in road haulage, and look forward to seeing him out on the road in the very near future, which could just be this week, as he has been offered work already!
