Driving Mistakes that can Damage your Car

Observation! Observations! Observations!

It makes total sense that if you are not paying attention to what is happening around you, your at risk. If there is someone else not paying attention, damage to their and your car is going to happen. You can't react to something you don’t know is happening.

Pay attention to your surroundings whilst you are driving. Take note of road signs and markings, let people know where you are going via signals and ensure you can stop safely in the distance you can see in front of you.

Any other tips or trends?
It takes two to tango. Be aware of other road users and pedestrians and where they are going, react accordingly.

Let other road users know where you are going. This is seen a lot that indicators are not being used, despite other road users guessing by speed and the position you have adopted, incidents will still happen, expensive repairs will then follow.

The ready to pass website is useful to learners as well as full license holders follow the link to see why.

Test drive in a BYD Dolphin Surf.
Had a great time with BYD on Saturday 11th of April, taking the Dolphin Surf out for a test drive. Very nippy was the words that spring to mind. Yes it has all that you would expect from a BYD, but what really stood out was the performance, accelerating from a stand still and easily getting up to 60 MPH. Other car that caught our eye was the ATTO 2. Bigger and really looks good up close.
Back to the Dolphin Surf though. A new EV for less than £20,000, way to go BYD.

Any other tips or trends?
Think about your own well being and that of your passengers.

Clothing; Make sure you have warm clothing in the car or a blanket if the heater stops working, also consider high visibility jackets

Food and Drink; If you are going some distance, think about having drink and food in the car for energy or if you breakdown.

Emergency kit; Plan for the worst but hope for the best. Car emergency kits can be purchased at most online automotive stores or on the high street

Key Tips for Safe Driving
1. Avoid Distractions: Turn off your phone or keep it out of reach. Avoid eating or adjusting in-car entertainment while moving.

2.Maintain Safe Distances: Use the “two-second rule” to keep space between you and the car ahead, doubling it in poor conditions.

3.Drive Defensively: Constantly scan the road ahead and check mirrors to anticipate risks, rather than just reacting to the car directly in front.

4.Watch Your Speed: Adhere to speed limits and reduce speed during bad weather or heavy traffic.

5.Use Signals & Be Predictable: Signal your intentions early and avoid sudden, erratic movements like sharp braking or sudden lane changes.

6.Never Drive Impaired or Tired: Avoid driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and take breaks every two hours if on a long journey.

7.Maintain Your Vehicle: Keep tires properly inflated, brakes checked, and lights working to ensure the car is safe to operate.

8.Junctions: Always come to a complete stop at red lights and stop signs, never rush through amber lights.
