It’s not often i head out this late anymore (I'm getting old) 🤣

Tonight, the RBS rally rep was called into action as thunderbird 2 is locked up in the workshop,
A regular customer called and was stranded with a flat battery in East cowes.
A quick trip out, a quick jump start and just 2 minutes after arriving they were back up and running! ⚡️
Rachael Morris no more letting Katie charge her phone 😉

Looking after my regular customers is something I'm always happy to do unless I've had a drink 🍸

Another vehicle back on the road and, most importantly, a few more smiles put on faces. 🔧🤝

🔧 The job of all jobs today! 🔧

Around nine months ago, I completely stripped the inside of this Toyota Land Cruiser after it developed serious wiring, fuse-box and immobiliser problems—all caused by water ingress.

This wasn’t simply a dashboard removal.
The dashboard wiring loom, complete heating and ventilation system all had to come out.
Pretty much everything was removed, right back to the bulkhead.
I've since been waiting for the necessary replacement parts to arrive from Japan.
With the help from S J Recovery the vehicle was picked up from the customers house and delivered to the workshop .

Today, everything was finally here, so it was time to put this enormous jigsaw puzzle back together—nine months after taking it apart and without a finished picture to work from

After carefully rebuilding and reconnecting everything, I’m very pleased to report that it started on the very first turn of the key. A brilliant result after one of the biggest most technical jobs this month ✅

A big step forward with my own project today!

On my day off,
My good friend Ross travelled down from up north to help me start putting the Supra back together.

We pulled the car out and installed the freshly built 2JZ engine, followed by a BMW-sourced ZF 8HP eight-speed automatic gearbox using a Domiworks conversion kit who are located in Sweden

The kit provides the components needed to mate the modern BMW gearbox to the old Toyota 2JZ engine and mount it correctly in the Supra.
Everything is now fitted and connected as it should be, including the propshaft.

The standard automatic Supra originally had just four forward gears; this conversion doubles that to eight. The closely spaced ratios should keep the engine in its power band, provide much quicker gear changes and still give it a more relaxed cruising gear.

The engine has been fully built to handle at least 800 horsepower, so the end goal is simple: around 800 horsepower going through eight gears—a modern BMW transmission fitted to an old-school Toyota!

The next major purchases will be a suitably HUGE turbo and upgraded rear L*D differential.
Once those pieces are in place, we’ll be another big step closer to getting it running.

Alternator replacement on this Vauxhall Vivaro today at Woodside Bay Lodge Retreat, Isle of Wight for a holiday maker

It might seem a little drastic having to remove the front bumper, headlights and crash structure, but it’s the only practical way to gain proper access to the front of the engine and the alternator.

Once everything was stripped down, the faulty alternator could be removed and replaced before carefully rebuilding the front end.

From turning up to the vehicle and then driving away, the whole job took just 50 minutes.
It’s handy when you’ve done a few of these—you know exactly what needs to come off and which bolts need undoing🔧

On the older shape Vivaro/traffic the alternator can be done in under 20 min 😁

Three very different jobs through the workshop today!

First up was this lovely three-year-old Toyota GR86 for its MOT and service. What a beautiful little car—and it has covered only 1,500 miles from new!

I actually carried out its first MOT a year early last year, when it had covered just 93 miles, so it certainly gets very little use.

I also helped a holidaymaker whose vehicle broke down over the weekend. DH Price recovered it to us after one of their recovery drivers recommended RBS Autos to carry out the repair.

The replacement alternator was ordered on Saturday, arrived today, and was fitted straight away.
The vehicle was then delivered back to its owner by 3pm this afternoon, allowing them to get on with their holiday.

And to finish the afternoon was an easy strut top mount on a Toyota avensis

Three completely different vehicles and jobs, all completed and back with their owners.

I also do vehicle inspections for finance and warranty companies, plus pre-purchase inspections for customers looking to buy.

I've already carried out three inspections in the last seven days for finance companies one of which is this Mercedes.

Although it had only been owned for a few months, the inspection found several faults, including a serious oil leak dripping onto the exhaust manifold, which is a serious fire risk, along with issues on the downhill speed control and radar system and electronic ignition switch ,

Late Friday afternoon, I had a call from a scooter rally attendee whose VW T4 had completely lost its clutch.

I arranged recovery with S J Recovery and then first thing Saturday it was pushed into workshop and carried out a full clutch replacement.

Once finished, i returned the van to the customer at the rally site, so they could head home on Sunday

Yesterday I received a call from one of the islands AA patrols asking if I could assist with a stranded holiday maker.

Their Volvo XC70 had a failed alternator.
After confirming the fault, I sourced a new alternator from one of our local suppliers and arranged recovery to the workshop.

The new part is fitted, the vehicle is running perfectly, and I'll be returning it to the owner shortly. Big thanks once again to the AA for trusting RBS Autos to help once more .

Something abit different today .

I got asked by a customer to replace a door that was damaged by an elderly gentleman .

Rather than go through the insurance he decided to buy a secondhand bare door and get me to replace it .

So remove the old door , strip all the internals from the old door , fit the new door and install the internals .
