I'm pleased to report that I'm thoroughly enjoying retirement! Getting to spend valuable time with my wife and children instead of work dominating my life. More of my leisure time is spent on bicycles than motorbikes now.
I'm keeping the Triumph for the time being but I'm selling my V-Strom so get in touch if anyone's interested. It's a Suzuki DL650, just two years old with 16,875 miles on the clock. They seem to be going for £6,000 to £6,500 so I figured £5,800 is a reasonable asking price.

After all the trauma of having to clear out in a hurry I needed a break from it all. Now I'm starting to sort through all the stuff that went into storage (most of the bikes are still for sale by the way) and there was a box of thank you cards. So before they all go into recycling I decided to lay them out and take a photo. Most recent thanks came via Facebook or Google reviews but a card was the old fashioned way to do it and it was always nice to know your efforts were appreciated!

I wonder how many more of these slipped through the net? I was deleting emails when I came across this photo that Kev took of Brian with his GSX750 in June and I realised I had never posted it on here. At least we always called him Brian until he passed his test and then told us everyone else calls him Parky. Parky even came back again to wish us well when we were clearing out. If there's anyone else out there who thinks they should have been on the Newcastle Rider Training Hall of Fame then let me know and I'll see if there's still a photo lurking somewhere!

Well, we did it! Very much a team effort, so many thanks to those who helped and thanks also to those who were on standby in case we needed more help. Everything was cleared out in just two days (and there was a lot of junk that had been accumulated over the years!) and we are no longer at the Old Glassworks (in fact we as a company are no longer anywhere). If you go down to the Glassworks today you’ll probably find that they’re already gutting our building.
It’s the end of an era but I’ll keep this page open for some time yet. Ride safely everyone!

It was never supposed to end like this but 32 years of Newcastle Rider Training has come to an end. It has been an amazing journey and we’d like to say thank you to over 13,500 customers who have used our services over the years.

This Tuesday and Wednesday (25th and 26th July) we will be clearing everything out of our unit.

There’s a lot of stuff to shift. Much of it will be going into storage for sorting out later and some of it will be dumped. If you want a second-hand helmet come and help yourself on Tuesday morning before they get thrown out. We also have a lot of second-hand boots going cheap (and some for free).

Unfortunately we won't have time to chat much, as we have such limited time to move everything, hope you understand.
If you're interested in a bike, please get back to us in August when we should have more time to take stock.

I'm afraid everything is on hold at the moment. We can't get access to the property and we can't answer the phone. Please bear with us!

Gis a job! Who is this young man? Could it be Kev's son? No, it's Kev 13 years ago when he was part time here and running his own delivery business too! He has decided to move on from teaching budding motorcyclists after we close down, and he's looking for work. His background is in engineering but he'd prefer outdoor work. A ranger post with the National Trust looked right up his street but it went to someone else. Let us know if you have any suggestions.

Steven had a FireBlade waiting in the wings ready for when he gained his full licence but this isn't the one. He passed his test with us in May, took the bike out for a blast and it blew up somewhere in the wilds of Northumberland (I'm getting this story second hand since I wasn't here when he dropped by). It had to be a FireBlade for Steven though so this is the second attempt (and this one works well).

Apart from all the photos of Sunday's ride, I've still got a couple more customer photos to post. This one is from a few weeks back. Mick was a beginner when he did his CBT with us a year ago. He rode an MT125 for a few months after that and then came back to pass his test in March. He treated himself to this CBR650 and brought it in for the obligatory photocall.

The great buzz for me with motorcycling has always been about getting away on my own and exploring. I was the same with cycling right from an early age. However, Caroline has persuaded me that I need to join in with this ride out on Sunday!
We'll be meeting up at the Glassworks (now called Mandale Park Phase 2 incidentally) at 10:00 on Sunday morning. It's not an organised ride, totally unofficial, so it's every rider for him/her/themself. We won't be looking out for you or making sure you get there in one piece - we've been doing enough of that for the last 32 years. If you want someone to look out for you then bring a buddy or latch on to one at the start.
Kev has a vague plan to head up to Rothbury, then Jedburgh, then Kielder and back to Newcastle. You're welcome to join in for any part and then make your own way back. I for one won't be going all the way because I have a family commitment in Teeside in the afternoon. Ride safely everyone!

Tim passed his test with us a few weeks ago and rode over to see us at the weekend straight from buying this DL650 from Mo-Tech on Shields Road. His mum and dad were out with him on their bikes too - perhaps I should have taken a family shot... They were just about to head out for a ride up to Otterburn on that sunny Saturday afternoon.
