Removal of fork tubes from the axel lugs is not for the faint of heart especially kyb forks . Wp being the easiest. On kyb an showa forks if the damage on the thread caused from a grub screw if not cleaned up correctly, when unscrewing the tube you can say goodbye to all the thread in the axel lug .

There a few different types of check valves for shocks . This in the picture is a nut type with a check valve plate . It serves 2 purposes one is to separate the reb adjustment from compression so allowing you to adjust rebound without affecting compression. Secondly you can control compression with either a hole drilled into the centre of the nut and in some cases a bleed hole in the main piston . The size of the hole determines how stiff or soft the shock is without the rebound effecting it . So basically on most std shocks when you slow reb down you at the same time increase compression and if you make reb faster ypu making the shock compression softer sometimes having a negative effect on what you trying to achieve.

Just because they are air forks does not mean you must not remove outer air pressure. A trait of air forks is inner hight pressure bleeds/leaks into the outer chamber causing them to be really harsh
