Saxon Park can be found nestled within the Suffolk countryside, with the peaceful village of Needham Market being less than a mile from the park entrance. Needham Market initially grew around the wool combing industry, until the onset of the plague, which swept the town from 1663 to 1665. To prevent the spread of the disease, the town was chained at either end, which succeeded in its task but at t
he cost of two-thirds of its population. Modern Needham Market contains two road names that are linked to the plague. “Chainhouse Road” which was named after the chains that ran across the East end of the town and “The Causeway” which is a modern variation of ‘the corpseway’ and relates to the route that plague victims were transported out of the town and to neighbouring Barking church for internment. The village offers a range of local amenities, from a supermarket and garage, through to antique shops. There are many annual events held throughout the year including fetes, firework displays and a Christmas Carol Service, the area is known for its close knit community and old fashioned values. Needham Lake is located just outside the village and is stocked with a variety of fish as well as other wildlife. You can obtain a nature trail map of the area from the local information centre which will afford you hours of nature watching and country walking which will be fantastic at any time of year. Surrounded by open countryside and woodland, Saxon park makes an ideal setting for a peaceful retirement. Saxon Park is currently undergoing a facelift and new show homes will be available to view in mid 2014. The park has a private car parking area although the new plots all have their own parking bays.
