What can I say about this one... 530bhp and 750nm of raw grunt. Even at stock power levels this vehicle is blisteringly quick.

But the sneaky Germans always leave plenty of engineering headroom for us to exploit. This has 2 Bosch MG1CS201 ECUs, and it's only within the last 2 weeks we've been able to unlock these on the bench without sending the ECUs away. Both ECUs hooked up via bench, full backups taken, and unlocked πŸ”‘. Software patch to allow OBD writing also.

Out for a datalog - perfect. Flashed in a TCU Calibration (gearbox), then flashed in a base file to both ECUs.

Multiple revisions later and the result is epic. Instant throttle response, datalogs support a very healthy 649bhp and 886nm of torque to finish up with.
I absolutely adore a V8, they offer a power delivery like nothing else. Sharp response, instant torque, breathtaking midrange and excellent top end power also.

Recoded the dashboard to show the 200mph (160mph as stock). Speed limiter removed, this vehicle would have a damn good shot at getting close to top speed. Although this took many hours, the result was absolutely worth it.

Fitted with the a B48 variant these 2.0 litre petrol engines achieve excellent gains. 184bhp and 290nm of torque in stock form isn't quite enough to get this relatively heavy car to "shift".

Fitted with an MG1CS003 ECU, i first backed it up on the bench "just in case", alongside the ASW encoding.

Then, using my Autotuner Master tool I pulled off the OBD Virtual Read.

Off for a datalogging session, alongside the ECU backup confirmed a healthy stock vehicle. A 100% match in my Winols database gave me an already tested file to use from a previous vehicle running the same calibration.

Flashed in, datalogged and everything looked great. Made a few tweeks to ignition timing and gave a more aggressive timing request due to being run on 99RON fuel.
Datalogged again, less than a quarter degree of sporadic ignition pull and its done and dusted.

Judging by the log, overall power at 242bhp and 431nm of torque give us a delta gain of 58bhp and 141nm of torque. A massive boost in performance.

For all of your custom tuning requirements, give us a shout. Software developed and written in-house.

Another MD1CS104 packed up and ready to be sent away for unlocking.

Using this method means the ECU doesn't need to be opened.

Some ECUs can be same-day "unlocked" using a Boot-Glitch method, however seeing many ECUs across the World being rendered "dead" afterwards has brought me to the conclusion that I don't want to put my customers at risk.

So for some ECUs that means sending it off to AutoTuner HQ in Luxembourg. It does mean a 3-7 day downtime, however it has the best success rate πŸ‘Œ.

This 2021 Transporter once unlocked will allow us to read and write the ECU to allow us to undertake all manner of software adjustment.

We are Pembrokeshires (only) Master Tuner, we write and develop software in-house using a wide variety of software applications and editing suites.

We offer realtime, on-road datalogging and custom tuning services on a variety of petrol and diesel vehicles however our speciality is the German market πŸ‡©πŸ‡ͺ

I've spoke about this many times before, but people still ask. So here it is. In 2015 the "Dieselgate" scandal rocked the automotive world (nobody was that surprised though lets be honest). And Volkswagen Group were found to be using a clever engine management software function where the ECU could detect if it was being driven in accordance with the applicable "test cycle" and subsequently lower its emissions (absolutely genuis really). However, it was discovered some vehicles emitted up to 40 times more NOx than they stated - as a result VW had it's arse royally slapped in a multibillion Dollar "Clean-Air" lawsuit.

This post related mainly to the 1.6tdi engines such as the CAYC/CAYD units. To get around this scandal, millions of vehicles were recalled and were given a software update AND a hardware change. Software update 9979 contained a much more emission output orientated "fix" with major changes to the intake airflow calculation and fuelling strategies.

They also fitted the "Air Straightener" as seen being chucked out of the workshop in this video. This device slows the airflow down as it passes over the MAF sensor, allowing a more precise airload calculation to be created. But it was terrible for power and terrible for fuel economy so we will always remove this and downgrade to the last known stable software in our database. Instantly more power even on a stock car, and when paired with our tuning software the difference is huge.

DISCLAIMER: removing this without doing a software change will cause limp mode. Done in 5 minutes (also a quick clean of the MAF sensor)

Silly Season is in full swing and time for a moan....

Its highly unlikely I will have any capacity to take any other bookings until week commencing 1st August.

I'm fully booked for July. Most slots are even double booked especially the weekends.

The number of calls and messages im getting (although great to be busy) is practically unmanageable. So the following applies and apologies of its brutal.

1.) πŸ“ž if you try to call and I'm unavailable or on another call tou will usually receive an automated message. READ the message in FULL. Do not repeat call me (today the same number called me 5 times in 3 minutes). Reply to the message with registration number, mileage,, transmission type and exactly what you require. I will then text or call back ASAP. Simple.

When sending a message, you again will receive an automated response. I dont have the time to keep asking the same basic questions (questions the automated messages asks for anyway). So if you send a message "can you remap my car", or "do tou do remaps". You probably won't get a response back from me any time soon πŸ™ˆ.

Last.... the price. The price you are quoted is the price. If you feel you can get it done cheaper, please go elsewhere. I offer quality above anything else offered in the entire county. My knowledge, experience and equipment isn't cheap - an neither am I. I charge a fair price and specialise in what I do.

99.9% of my customers are absolute legends and it's a pleasure to work with you.

But for the 00.1% of "chancers" i come across - please dont waste my time πŸ˜‚.

Thank you for your support during this insanely busy month. It's already a record breaker πŸ‘Œ

🏁 Mazda MX5 2.0 160bhp Graphite Edition 🏁

βœ…οΈ Custom Stage 1

A naturally aspirated engine - low peak power gains. Yet the customer was delighted..... why?

When we were contacted by Roger (a distinguished older gentleman) about his MX5, I immediately went into "reality check" mode. Im always dead honest with customers and I made it clear any potential improvement would be subtle, and wouldn't be anywhere near on par with a turbocharged vehicle. I'd estimated a peak power gain of around 10bhp and perhaps 15nm of torque, but did state we could probably get this sort of improvement through the majority of midrange and top-end.

However, Roger insisted we give it a go. The main complaint was the vehicle was easy to stakl below 2000rpm on clutch release, and the engine starts to run out of power after 4200rpm. Roger had fitted an expensive Pedal Commander box to counteract this, but this was unsuccessful. I disconnected the Pedal Box before starting.

I immediately noticed in the stock software that at low RPM and low load, the AFR was very lean. And after 4000rpm the ignition timing advance was rather conservative.

Normally, when tuning a vehicle we tend not to alter many low-load cells, however this was absolutely necessary on this. I slightly reduced the Lambda request at low load below 2000rpm which slightly richens up the fuel mixture - hopefully smoothing this area out nicely.

Then to deal with the upper midrange to top end. Tuning a Naturally Aspirated engine can be painful, as really small changes often give the subtle improvements needed. So a very minor decrease in Lambda coupled with a few extra degrees of ignition timing and the verdict was in.

I called Roger a few hours later, and told him to "give that a try". he came back from the test drive and stated above 4000rpm now felt much more alive, and the engine stalling issue below 2000rpm was drastically improved. Result. Job done βœ”οΈ.

It's often the surprising jobs like this which give me the most satisfaction, knowing how much Roger will enjoy driving this car a lot more.

And its this exact reason why I'm the best in the West. Proper custom calibration and good old fashioned field-based development. It took a few hours but was worth it.

This lovely 2019 BMW 120d with just over 30,000 miles on the clock was simply begging for a tune. It's owner, Rob was a class guy and after speaking at length on the phone I explained a variety of vehicle specific technicalities and explained why we should also tune the gearbox (its a ZF8hp of course).

1st job - pop the ECU off and check to confirm it's stock. And it was βœ”οΈ.

Datalog the vehicle - boost, rail pressure and fuel quantity perfectly tracking requested Vs actual parameters, again confirming it's super healthy.

Flashed in my own custom TCU tune to the gearbox first - sharper shifting, increase torque converter line pressure and a torque management strategy matched to my Stage 1 engine software.

Loaded in a "tried and tested" calibration and headed for another datalogging session. Absolutely perfect once again with room for improvement.

A few tweaks to injection timing in the midrange and fuel rail pressure puts this vehicle exactly where a healthy stage 1 should. Overall gains of 30+bhp and 45nm+ torque may not seem like much, however these gains carry through a huge portion of the RPM range and massively improve driveability.

After the customer undertook a test drive he reported sharper throttle response, a noticeable power improvement and was also impressed with how different the gearbox felt.

Gearboxes should always be tuned alongside engines, both are integral to the way a vehicle drives and they should both work together seamlessly πŸ‘Œ

We are Pembrokeshires only custom tuning specialist.... whilst many claim to be "specialists" none undertake the in-house development and software writing, coupled with on-road datalogging that we do.

πŸ”Ž Investigate Calibration

Yesterday was manic, from 08:30am to 6pm I managed to get through 5 vehicles (2 were custom tunes). However this BMW was brought to me after having an insane amount of money spent on it. A garage had replaced the EGR valve, turbocharger and a whole range of other random parts costing close to Β£2000.

The issue? On hard acceleration the car would enter reduced power, but other than an occasional code relating to intake airflow quantity - no other fault codes were present.

The vehicle owner was getting to the stage where cost of repairing the vehicle was almost higher than the cost of purchasing the vehicle.

However on the phone call I stated I was fairly confident I know whats happened.

In just minutes I could see from Diagnostic data that the DPF pressure sensor reading was static and with 250,000 miles of DPF life remaining it was clear this car had received a DPF delete via software but the DPF was actually still fitted (tail pipes clean as a whistle).

"Benched" the ECU and was able to 100% confirm DPF data blocks had been manipulated.

Performed a software update on the ECU and flashed back to stock calibration.

Now the customer can get the DPF issue resolved and finally enjoy the vehicle. Unfortunately this is extremely common and in this instance its lucky to have not experienced catastrophic component failure due to the high exhaust back pressure.

We work with a variety of Motor Traders but unfortunately this one didn't think to investigate the software (despite simple Diagnostic tests being able to narrow things down).

Message to all Motor Traders - put your pride aside and if in doubt just give me a call.
