This one was booked in for a preventative timing chain replacement using genuine BMW parts throughout.

Engine removed from the vehicle, timing system replaced and everything built back up and road tested the same day.

2013 BMW 520d Auto (N47D20C) in with us for a few jobs, all completed and back with the customer the same day.

Main job was our same day timing chain replacement. Engine removed from the vehicle and a complete OEM IWIS timing chain system fitted.

While it was with us the automatic gearbox was also serviced, along with a new auxiliary drive belt.

We also found the turbocharger was at the end of its life. Rather than the customer having to bring the car back another day, we had a reconditioned turbo in stock and got that replaced at the same time.

• Reconditioned turbocharger
• New auxiliary drive belt

• Coolant refresh

2015 BMW M135i (N55B30M0) back in with us for a bit of maintenance.

This is a returning customer who’s been coming to us for years and has always trusted us to look after his lovely M135i.

On its last service we identified a couple of oil leaks. Nothing unusual for an N55 of this age, but worth getting sorted before they got any worse.

🔧 Work carried out

• Genuine BMW sump gasket
• Genuine BMW rocker cover gasket
• Fresh engine oil
• New oil filter

The sump gasket had started leaking, so the sump was removed and resealed with a new genuine BMW gasket. The rocker cover gasket was also leaking and replaced with genuine BMW.

Fresh oil and filter to finish the job, everything cleaned down and checked afterwards.

Always nice seeing cars come back year after year and being able to keep on top of the maintenance rather than waiting for small issues to turn into bigger ones.

Back with the customer and ready for plenty more miles 👌

2016 BMW 320d M Sport xDrive (B47D20A) in with us for some important drivetrain maintenance.

This one had a ZF 8-speed transmission service, along with fresh oil through the rest of the xDrive drivetrain.

The ZF service was carried out using genuine ZF parts and ZF Lifeguard fluid, including a new integrated sump/filter. The front and rear differentials and transfer box were then serviced using the correct genuine BMW oils.

🔧 Work carried out

• ZF 8-speed transmission service
• Genuine ZF integrated sump and filter
• Genuine ZF Lifeguard transmission fluid
• Front differential oil change using genuine BMW oil
• Rear differential oil change using genuine BMW oil
• Transfer box oil change using genuine BMW oil

Despite the idea of these being “lifetime” fluids, oils don’t last forever. Heat, mileage and normal wear all gradually contaminate and degrade the fluid.

Servicing the ZF transmission gives it fresh fluid and a new filter, helping maintain smooth gear changes and protecting the internal components from unnecessary wear.

The xDrive drivetrain is just as important. The transfer box is constantly managing power between the front and rear axles, while both differentials are working whenever the car is moving. Fresh, correct-specification oil helps protect the gears, bearings and clutches inside these units.

Especially on an xDrive BMW, it makes sense to maintain the whole drivetrain rather than just the engine.

Gearbox serviced, both diffs serviced and transfer box serviced. Ready for plenty more miles 👌🔥

Engine removed and the original timing system replaced with a complete OEM IWIS timing chain kit, installed and timed correctly to BMW specification.

While the engine was out, the customer also asked us to replace the water pump as preventative maintenance, so a new unit was fitted while access was easy.

• Coolant refresh and A/C re-gas

Everything back together, road tested and running spot on.

While the engine was out, the crankshaft pulley was found to be at the end of its service life, so a new one was fitted at the same time.

2014 BMW 520d M Sport (N47D20C) in with us for our same day timing chain replacement service.

Engine out and the original timing system replaced with a complete OEM IWIS timing chain kit, all timed correctly to BMW specification.

While the engine was out we gave everything a good check over and found a couple of other issues worth sorting at the same time.

The turbocharger was at the end of its life, so a reconditioned unit was fitted from our stock. The original rocker cover had also warped, so this was replaced with a new genuine BMW rocker cover.

• Reconditioned turbocharger
• New genuine BMW rocker cover
• Genuine BMW oil and filter
• Coolant refresh and A/C re-gas

All done in one hit, engine back in, road tested and running spot on.

Customer booked in for a timing chain replacement and bottom end refresh, along with a new rocker cover while the engine was out.

Engine removed, stripped and checked over. Bottom end refreshed with new OEM Kolbenschmidt main and big end bearings, along with a complete genuine BMW timing chain kit and genuine BMW parts throughout.

No faults or failures on this one, just good preventative maintenance to keep everything working exactly as it should.

2012 BMW 320d (N47D20C) in with us for a routine timing chain replacement, along with a request from the customer to investigate a vibration coming through the clutch pedal.

Engine removed and the timing system replaced with a complete OEM IWIS timing chain kit, installed and timed correctly to BMW specification.

With everything apart, the cause of the vibration became pretty obvious. The dual mass flywheel was quite literally falling to bits and well beyond the point of needing replacement.

Our inspection also picked up a couple of other issues. The turbocharger was at the end of its service life, as was the crankshaft pulley, so it made sense to deal with everything in one hit while the engine was already out.

• New OEM LuK dual mass flywheel
• New OEM LuK clutch kit
• Reconditioned turbocharger supplied from our stock
• New crankshaft pulley
• Genuine BMW oil and filter

What started as a routine timing chain replacement and a vibration through the clutch pedal turned into a little more than expected, but that’s exactly why we inspect everything properly while these engines are out.

Chains done, clutch and flywheel sorted, fresh turbo and crank pulley. Car back in tip-top condition and back on the road! 👌🔥
