10 years off the road and this BMW 840 is finally getting some attention.

It’s running rough, misfiring and throwing up throttle faults. We’ve also found a rat’s nest under the bonnet, so there could be some interesting wiring issues to deal with.

First job is getting it running properly, then we’ll move on to the suspension.

This should be an interesting one to follow.

This oil leak could have been very easy to misdiagnose.

At first it looked like a leaking crankshaft seal, but after cleaning everything down and removing the pulley, we found a crack in the front timing cover.

Unfortunately, it’s a much bigger repair than expected, but it shows why taking the time to diagnose a fault properly matters.

Better to find the real problem now than replace parts that weren’t faulty.

Electric cars still need servicing.

This BMW iX came in for its two year service, including a full health check, diagnostics, brake fluid change and cabin filter replacement.

Everything looked good apart from the rear tyres, both down to around 1mm of tread and well below the legal limit.

Just because it’s electric doesn’t mean there’s nothing to maintain.

If you’re going to own an M car, you might as well have the right people looking after it 🥂

£180 vs £630 for the same job.

The genuine manifold comes with a new swirl flap motor, but in our experience it’s rarely the motor itself that fails.

We’ve been using these non genuine manifolds for nearly three years with great results, which is why we’re happy to offer customers both options.

Sometimes genuine makes sense. Sometimes it doesn’t.

they should completely transform the E36.

AST 5300s, three way adjustable with remote reservoirs and a proper motorsport focused setup.

The suspension has been the weak point of the car for a while. This should finally sort that.

Full fitting video coming soon

10 years with this E36 and it’s finally time to give it some attention again.

It started life as a completely standard 328 and over the years we’ve turned it into a full track car with a built S54, cage, fuel system and plenty more.

The suspension has always been the weak point, so a set of AST 5300s is going on and hopefully this is the start of getting it back on track next year.

It would be easy to just fit new gaskets and put this back together, but we’re not happy with it.

The coating inside the valve covers is flaking away, and those pieces can eventually end up circulating with the oil. In extreme cases we’ve even seen debris block oil pickup pipes and cause serious engine damage.

So before this goes back together, we’re getting them properly cleaned up first.

This is what carbon build up looks like inside a B47.

This one came in for a decoke, but once the manifold was off we also found excessive movement in the swirl flaps.

Rather than spending hours trying to clean a worn manifold, we can replace it for around £200 with a brand we’ve used dozens of times without an issue.

Sometimes replacement just makes more sense than cleaning.

A 72 plate BMW on its third battery. Something doesn’t add up

After replacing the dead 12V battery and updating the software, the car is back up and running properly

But on a car this new, we don’t want to just fit another battery and send it out. Next step is a battery drain test to find out if there’s an underlying reason it keeps happening
