This BMW came in for suspension work, and once the repair was completed, the next important step was checking the tracking properly.

In this video, our technician explains what’s been done and why the tracking is now very close, but still not absolutely perfect because further work is needed before it can be set exactly where it should be.

That’s an important part of doing the job properly. We’d rather be straight with a customer than pretend everything is perfect when there’s still something affecting the final setup.

This is exactly why unusual belt noises are worth checking properly.

On this job, there was clear play in the belt tensioner. It might look like a small movement on video, but that movement can lead to belt noise, poor running, and potentially bigger issues if it is left too long.

A quick inspection can often catch these things before they turn into a breakdown.

The Role

This is a diagnostics-first position.

You will be expected to:

Diagnose ECU, CAN network and electrical faults
Trace and repair wiring issues using wiring diagrams and test procedures
Identify root causes — not just fault codes
Diagnose complex engine and drivability faults
Use scopes, live data and logical testing methods
Support other technicians on difficult jobs when required
This role is about understanding systems, not guessing faults.

What We’re Looking For

Level 3 qualified (or equivalent)
Strong proven experience in diagnostics (essential)
Confident reading and interpreting wiring diagrams
Solid understanding of engine operation and control systems
Ability to carry out logical fault finding using test equipment
Experience with oscilloscopes / advanced diagnostics (preferred)
Someone who takes pride in getting the diagnosis right first time
