** REVAMP Training Limited Continues To Support The Roll Out of the EV Industry in Guyana - December 2022. **

Thirteen trainees received certificates for their successful completion of a Level Three Hybridand Electric Vehicle training programme on Friday at Cara Lodge in Georgetown. The five -
day programme taught participants how to identify, repair, and maintain various parts of electric vehicles. It was a collaboration among the Guyana Energy Agency (GEA), REVAMP and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).

The IDB’s Country Representative for Guyana, Lorena Salazar commended the Government for beginning the transition to electric vehicles and renewable energy. “This is another milestone in the partnership supporting Guyana shifting to a Low Carbon Development economy,” she said.

Participants of the programme expressed their appreciation for the training received, and attributed their understanding to REVAMP Senior Trainer, Stephen Burr. “You don’t wait until the problem is upon you, then try to learn how to deal with it. So, learning to deal with it now is good. I applaud you, and I am asking and imploring you to continue with this trend. I am sure that the GEA through the partnership with the IDB will continue to support this training because that is what diversification in the energy matrix is about: renewable energy,” he said.

Some delegates expressed intentions of utilising the skills received in their respective industries, while others committed to imparting their newfound knowledge to others. Minister within the Public Works Ministry, Deodat Indar, expressed satisfaction at the foresight of the GEA and IDB as it relates to electric vehicles, and urged trainees not to let their knowledge go to waste.

The first batch of training was conducted in July and saw 12 persons graduating from a similar training programme. To date, 25 persons have benefitted from this training. It ties into the government’s vision to shift away from the use of fossil fuels and combustible engines, and towards the use of sustainable energy by 2030.

GREEN SKILLS BOOTCAMP - Electrification

REVAMP Training Limited (RTL) Green Skills Bootcamps are designed to provide training to a range of staff including technicians and engineers who work on Electric/Hybrid Vehicles and Battery Systems. The aim of the Battery Electrification Green Skills Bootcamp is to upskill technical workforces who are involved in the transition work to electrification across the automotive industries and lithium-ion battery manufacturing.

The Battery Electrification Green Skills Bootcamp delivers the required knowledge and skills to provide a focal point for training in lithium-ion battery pack manufacturing, assembly, health and safety and recycling and repurposing. Through practical understanding and awareness, individuals will be able to incorporate sections of learning into their own work place environment.

Specific topics cover Electrode Manufacture and Assembly, Formation, Aging, Testing and Finishing. Health and Safety topics will focus on Electric Hazard Failures and Safety, Manual Handling, Electrolyte/NMP Spillages and Thermal Runaway.

This 5 day Battery Electrification Green Skills Bootcamp comprising of classroom activities, multi choice tests and background learning launches on Monday 10th October 2022.Training will take place at the Ashington STEM Centre. Northumberland, College Road, Ashington, NE63 9RG. Places are strictly limited. Please register your interest via [email protected] ; [email protected].

As a bespoke non-accredited continuous professional development (CPD) training course, learners will receive a certificate of attendance verifying that they have officially attended a Battery Electrification Green Skills Bootcamp endorsed by the North East Institute of Technology (NEIOT).

*** REVAMP Training Supports the Roll Out of the EV Industry in Guyana ***

Prime Minister of Guyana, the Honourable Mark Phillips, stated that the Government will continue to develop the electric vehicle industry to lessen the country’s carbon footprint.

He explained that with Guyana’s drive to significantly slash the price of electricity, having electric vehicles will become very viable. He stated that “While the proliferation of electric vehicles adds a new dynamic for the utility, lower electricity costs will certainly encourage diversification in the transport sector.”

To this extent, he lauded the week long Guyana Energy Agency (GEA) Electric Vehicle Maintenance and Repairs Workshop held in July 2022, and delivered by REVAMP Training Limited (RTL) and called it a momentous occasion. During his closing remarks at Cara Lodge he said that the “workshop is very timely for Guyana as the Government is pursuing low carbon transportation infrastructure to reduce the demand for imported fossil fuels for vehicular transport. Having a cadre of trained and certified mechanics and auto-technicians in electric vehicle maintenance and repairs would give existing and potential vehicle owners additional confidence in the reliability of this technology. Proper maintenance will also ensure the longevity of these types of vehicles in a healthy and safe environment. As a country, we need to develop our human resources to drive a sustainable energy transition through continuous capacity building, training, public awareness, and education programmes. This workshop has contributed to boosting the country’s human capital to support such a transition.”

Steve Burr, who delivered the training on behalf of RTL said “the electric vehicle course is the first of its kind in Guyana and as such, RTL are very proud of what the technicians have achieved on the accredited (IMI) level 3 Award International in Electric and Hybrid System Repair and Replacement course. As a leading UK training company specialising in alternative fuelled vehicles, we develop and deliver accredited and non-accredited training courses around the emergence of new technologies that have surfaced because of the introduction of low carbon vehicles, battery energy storage, hydrogen and renewable technologies. RTL hopes that industry across Guyana recognises what the technicians have achieved and that this will encourage, challenge and stimulate more organisations across the Caribbean region to look to electric vehicle training to prepare their low carbon green futures.”

The Faraday Institution hosted an event on 18th March 2022 with The Royal Institution for 13-17 year olds to learn about exciting battery careers helping create a sustainable future.

REVAMP’s participation involved the following:

The “Powder to Power” activity is designed to inspire a new generation of budding technicians and engineers to develop their scientific knowledge and practical skills. At the end of the activity, young people will be able to make a battery stack coin battery.

The “Powder to Power” activity will make direct reference to the electrochemical powders, electrodes, electrolytes and separators. This will be supported by a tactile exercise which will explore the critical ingredients and materials required to manufacture a pouch cell battery. By using maths, the students will be challenged to work out the number of battery cells in a battery module and pack.

The ”Powder to Power” activity is designed to equip the next generation of technicians and engineers with the battery knowledge and understanding necessary to safely and effectively deliver battery electrodes to a quantity, volume and specification.
