Another busy day today!

BMW 420i M Sport engine removed in preparation for a rebuild

BMW 118i M Sport in for a service and MOT. Unfortunately the front splitter caught the floor on entering the workshop and suffered a catastrophic unaliving, new splitter ordered and will be replaced when it comes in. Thankfully a super chill customer!

Range Rover sport with a fuel leak found to be a clip missing now repaired and back on the road

Vauxhall Vivaro with a coolant leak from the EGR cooler most of the way there but unfortunately ran out of time before the end of the day!

Super busy day today and we've been flat out!

Land Rover Freelander 2 in for MOT repairs including a broken coil spring, drop link, oil leak, indicator bulb and an insecure CV boot. We noticed the power steering pump we fitted lazy year was noisy so while it was in we also took care of this under warranty for the customer.

Ford Mondeo in for 4 new injectors, fuel filter housing and a full service. The filter housing was leaking where somebody had previously bodged an electrical connector with a nail!

Mini Cooper D in for a manufacturer's service and MOT.

Audi A3 came in for a full service and a health check

Cirtoen C1 had a full service and health check

Nissan pathfinder for a slow to start fault. Battery tested and failed so a replacement was fitted before continuing diagnosis. Tests found a high resistance in the starter motor and following replacement the starting was resolved! The customer also asked us to look at a squeaky belt, a quick visual inspection showed excessive heat on the aircon compressor, a sign that the compressor is beginning to seize. A replacement will be quoted for the customer.

Finally a Vauxhall Vivaro with a loss of power concern. Initial checks showed this was likely to be a fault linked to the turbo charger, vehicle booked back in for thorough checks before completing a diagnosis.

Sorry for not posting last week, it's been super busy and we've just not had chance!

Here's a few from today's jobs:

Mini with oil in the coolant, confirmed head gasket failure. The yellow fluid indicates the presence of combustion gases in the coolant system and the coolant was also pressurising when only running for around ten seconds. This will be priced up for the customer.

Vauxhall Vivaro with a coolant leak. Using a borescope (tiny camera on a long wire) we were able to quickly pinpoint the source of the leak to the EGR valve and cooler unit.

Hyundai i30 in for an electrical fault. We found a corroded earth point. Cleaning the earth point up resolved the issue and was then coated to prevent it from happening again.

We had a Vauxhall Zafira in for MOT with a variety of faults, mostly braking related. These have all been investigated and the customer to be informed with prices.

Audi A1 in for both front drop links and an MOT

Transit minibus with a significant oil leak down the back of the engine believed to be from the vacuum pump oil seal from another garage. Inspection revealed although it does have a small leak, the majority of the leak is coming from the rocker cover. The vehicle was observed to be burning oil, this was traced back to the oil separator allowing oil to pass back into the air intake system.

Range Rover Evoque with a surprisingly loud knocking noise. Traced the noise back to the gearbox area, now awaiting authorization from the customer to remove the gearbox and investigate further.

Workshop update!

Today we've had a Hyundai Tucson with a parking sensor fault. With access to dealer technical data to see factory wiring diagrams, this was found to be a broken wire in the front bumper harness. Corroded section removed and repaired with fresh wire, parking sensors back up and running again!

Vauxhall Corsa in for a variety of things picked up on a health check including brakes, steering, suspension and belts. All completed and safe to return to the road.

Ford Mondeo in for park assist, ABS and power steering faults. All faults appear to be caused by low battery voltage. Battery charged overnight and tested in the morning, failed the test and replaced. No faults returned, customer to monitor.

Ford Transit minibus popped in for a quick code scan to get a basic idea of the reason for an engine warning light, customer booking in for proper diagnosis.

Land Rover Discovery in for a loss of power. Checks revealed the exhaust valve had sheared off from the actuator. Exhaust valve fitted and ready for a regen in the morning before going back to the customer.

Vauxhall Vivaro with a non-start fault, vehicle failed the battery test so battery replaced. Battery did not resolve the issue so further diagnosis was required. This revealed the starter motor isn't getting the signal to engage, diagnosis to continue in the morning!

Something a bit different in today, a Chrysler 300 limousine! This is in for an ABS fault, on inspection it was noted the reluctor rings are missing meaning there was nothing for the sensor to pick up on!

We've also had a Hyundai Tucson come in for a parking sensor fault which appears to be a wiring fault, more on that tomorrow.

Vauxhall Vivaro with starting issues has a faulty battery, battery on order for tomorrow before we continue diagnostics.

Finally a Vauxhall Corsa in for a rattling noise and engine warning light. A full health check revealed some worn components and some incorrectly fitted components, all of which are ordered up ready for tomorrow!
