Can this terrible Nissan Pathfinder paintwork actually be saved without repainting it?
In this video, I take on some seriously poor paintwork around the rear passenger wheel arch of a Nissan Pathfinder.
The panel has a combination of scratches, a dull and almost matt-looking finish, and a nasty bird-poo etch in the clear coat.
Rather than immediately assuming the panel needs painting, I'm going to see what we can achieve with machine polishing and paint correction.
I'll take you through the process from start to finish, including:
• Inspecting the damaged paint
• Assessing the scratches and bird-poo etching
• Paint-depth measurements
• Choosing the right polishing combination
• Carrying out a test spot
• Correcting the damaged paint
• Removing the dull, hazy finish
• Refining the paint for maximum gloss
• Comparing the before and after results
The aim isn't to remove every single defect at any cost. It's about achieving the best possible result while preserving as much of the original paint as possible.
And the final transformation is pretty impressive...
If you've got a car with dull paint, scratches or bird-poo damage, hopefully this video gives you a better idea of what can actually be achieved before resorting to a repaint.
