Three Fantastic Days of EV Training:
Earlier this month, we were delighted to welcome Valeo Tech Academy for three fantastic days of electric vehicle training.
Designed to support all skill levels, the courses combined expert guidance with practical, hands-on learning using bespoke EV training rigs. This gave technicians the opportunity to build confidence, explore electrical vehicle systems and develop valuable diagnostic skills in a safe, engaging environment.

Skills for Today’s Workshops:
Accredited by the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI), the training helps technicians gain the knowledge and practical ability needed to inspect, maintain, diagnose and repair the latest electric vehicle technologies. For workshops, investing in these skills can help keep teams up to date, meet growing customer demand and unlock new business opportunities as the automotive industry continues to evolve.

Should the MOT fee cap be increased?
The Class 4 MOT fee cap has sat at £54.85 since April 2010. Adjusted for inflation, this fee has lost roughly a third of its value. According to the Bank of England’s Inflation Calculator, had the MOT cap been adjusted for inflation it would today cost £87.31. Meanwhile garages have absorbed rising technician wages, energy costs, equipment calibration, premises costs, and new investment needed for EV testing and safety kit.

DVSA MOT TEST PHOTO ROLLOUT IS NOW LIVE

The DVSA has begun the national rollout of a new feature allowing MOT testers to take and upload vehicle photos at the time of test. The aim is to provide extra evidence that the vehicle was present at the garage, helping deter fraud and improve confidence in the MOT system.

Around 2,500 garages across Great Britain will be included in the first phase.

Photos are uploaded directly to the MOT testing service. The photos are not stored in a device’s camera roll or photo gallery. Garages not included in this phase do not need to take any action yet.

Motorists can continue to book their MOT and bring their vehicle to the testing centre as normal - you won't need to take a photograph yourself or upload anything before your appointment. Your MOT testing centre will take care of this as part of the test.

Eventually, it is anticipated this will become a mandatory part of the MOT process.
