🔧 🚗A LITTLE LOOK AT WHAT’S BEEN THROUGH R&J THIS WEEK…

Another good mix through the workshop doors, from MOTs and tyres to cooling system repairs and ongoing fault finding. Here’s a few we’ve had our hands on 👇

⚫ VW Tiguan
In with a coolant issue and overheating problem. The thermostat and housing were replaced to get the cooling system back operating as it should and keep the engine temperature under control. 🌡️🔧

⚪ Vauxhall Mokka
Straight onto the MOT lane for this one, sent over by our good friends at Wirksworth Cars. A big shoutout to the team there for their continued support and for always helping keep our MOT lane busy! 🤝

🔵 Škoda
This one is keeping us thinking! Currently under investigation for a water leak alongside a boost issue. The turbo actuator/turbo is a potential cause, but further diagnosis is needed before we call it. 🔍💨

🟠 Dacia Duster
A failed wiper motor and linkage meant the wipers weren’t doing much wiping! Both sorted and everything moving as it should again – fairly important with a Derbyshire forecast. 🌧️😂

🔵 Peugeot 5008
This 5008 was ready for some fresh rubber, so it received four new tyres – fresh tread all round and another one ticked off the list. 🛞

👨🏽‍🔧🔧 FULL HOUSE AT R&J! 🔧👨🏽‍🔧

It’s safe to say we’ve been super busy lately with a bit of everything coming through the workshop!

The gaffer and MOT tester Rob has also been off enjoying a well-earned break in Bali 🌴🍻 (alright for some 😂), but he’s officially back, so it’s all hands on deck again and MOT testing is back in full swing!

Here’s a look at just a few of the jobs we’ve had in recently 👇

🚗 VW Tiguan – New Camshafts
Starting with one for a family member… always our favourite jobs, obviously! 😂 This Tiguan came in for replacement camshafts, a fairly involved engine repair. The camshafts control the opening and closing of the engine valves, so wear or damage here can cause poor running, loss of performance and potentially further engine problems if left unresolved.

🚗 MINI – Cooling System / Thermal Management Module
This MINI unfortunately overheated and broke down, leaving the customer needing to have it recovered straight to us. We traced the problem to the thermal management module, an important part of controlling coolant flow and engine temperature. We’re getting that sorted and the cooling system back operating as it should so we can get the customer safely back on the road.

🛻 Nissan Navara – MOT Repairs & Fuel Sensor Fault
The Navara has been with us for the repairs required following its MOT, alongside investigating an issue with the fuel sensor system. Not everything that comes through our doors is a straightforward service or MOT – fault finding and diagnostics are a big part of what we do too.

🚗 VW Golf – Engine Unit & Injector
The Golf required a replacement engine unit and injector, involving both mechanical and electrical/diagnostic work. The ECU manages many of the engine’s key functions, while the injectors need to deliver the correct amount of fuel at precisely the right time – so getting everything working together correctly is essential.

🚐 Ford Transit – Brakes, MOT & Wheel Bearing
A proper workhorse in for some important maintenance: front brakes, MOT and a wheel bearing replacement. Brakes and wheel bearings are both major safety components, so any excessive wear, noise or play is something worth getting checked sooner rather than later.

🚗 Nissan Micra – MOT, Belts & Crankshaft Seal
And finally, this Micra came in for its MOT, along with a new auxiliary belt, water pump belt and crankshaft oil seal. The leaking crank seal was dealt with before fitting the new belts, helping keep oil away from components where it definitely doesn’t belong!

From MOTs and routine maintenance to diagnostics, engine work and bigger repairs, there’s plenty going on behind the doors at R&J.

🚗 Part 2… The Golf GTD is Back Fighting Fit! 💪🔧

After successfully extracting the snapped glow plug (without removing the cylinder head! 👏), it was time to tackle the remaining faults that were keeping this Golf GTD stuck in limp mode.

On this one we replaced:
✅ A brand new glow plug
✅ A new turbo actuator
✅ A new pressure sensor (the original had unfortunately melted! 😬)

With the repairs complete, we carried out a DPF regeneration to clear the soot build-up and get everything working exactly as it should.

Modern diesels can often suffer from multiple faults at once, so it’s important to diagnose the root cause rather than simply replacing parts and hoping for the best. That’s exactly what we aim to do with every vehicle that comes through our doors. 👨‍🔧

⚠️🔧 Saving a Cylinder Head, One Glow Plug at a Time🔧⚠️

Not every glow plug job goes to plan… but we’ve got the tools and experience to tackle it! 💪

This 2014 Volkswagen Golf GTD came into us with a snapped glow plug 😬 A fault that can quickly turn a straightforward repair into a costly one if it isn’t handled correctly.

🛠️ Instead of removing the cylinder head, we used our specialist glow plug extraction kit to carefully remove the broken glow plug with the engine still in the vehicle.

✅ Saved the customer time
✅ Saved the customer money
✅ Avoided unnecessary dismantling

Jobs like this require specialist equipment, patience and experience. Rushing the job or using the wrong methods can cause serious damage, which is why it’s always best left to the professionals👨‍🔧

❄️ KEEP YOUR COOL THIS SUMMER – NEW AIR CONDITIONING REGAS NOW AVAILABLE! ❄️

With the warmer weather here, now is the perfect time to make sure your air conditioning is working exactly as it should.

At R&J MOT & Repairs Ltd, we’re always looking to invest in the latest equipment so we can offer even more services in-house. That’s why we’re pleased to announce that from Monday, we’ll be able to carry out both types of air conditioning regas.

✅ R134a – Generally found in older vehicles.

✅ R1234yf – Used in most newer vehicles. Thanks to our latest investment in a brand-new machine, we’ll be offering R1234yf air conditioning regassing from Monday.

Not sure which gas your vehicle uses?
No problem, we’ll check that for you🙌🏽

Your air conditioning does much more than keep you cool on hot days. It also helps remove moisture from the air, clearing misted windows more quickly and making driving more comfortable all year round. Regular use and servicing can also help keep the system in good working order.

If your air conditioning isn’t blowing as cold as it should, takes longer than normal to cool the cabin, or simply hasn’t been serviced for a while, it may be time for a regas. If there’s another fault with the system, such as a leak, we’ll be happy to investigate that too.

💨 R1234yf regassing starts from £120, with the final price depending on your vehicle and the amount of refrigerant required. We also continue to offer R134a regassing for older vehicles.

👇🏼How to check your oil and why it matters!👇🏼

🚨The oil in your engine is one of your vehicle's most important elements! It keeps all the engine's internal parts moving as they should, and stops them from wearing out too quickly. If the oil level in your engine drops too low, then the lubrication of the engine's moving parts won't be sufficient.🚨

-How To Check-

🟠 Park on a flat surface, switch off the engine and let it cool
🟠Lift the bonnet and locate the dipstick.
🟠Pull out the dipstick and wipe it clean with a cloth
🟠Put the dipstick fully back in, then remove it again to check the oil level. The minimum to maximum amount of oil is typically 1 litre of oil.

🔥Proper Work, Done Right🔥

It’s been one of those weeks where everything’s been flat out but it’s just how we like it. Bit of decent weather for a change as well, which always keeps the team In high spirits😎

We’ve had a good mix in this week, from routine work to proper in-depth jobs:

🟠BMW X5 – in for brakes and a full service, all sorted and running spot on
🟠Audi S3 – full engine rebuild, not one you rush!
🟠Range Rover – A new gearbox and drive shaft fitted.
🟠BMW 1 Series – timing chains and full service, all done before it turns into a bigger problem!

Every job gets done the same way here — no cutting corners, no rushing things just to get them out the door. If it’s in with us, it’s getting done properly.
