It's been a strange couple of months!, I have taken some time out from the workshop due to taking seasonal work elsewhere, been up as far as Scotland and down as far as Cornwall!.

It is nice to get back home occasionally though

Unfortunately, due to personal circumstances i will be operating in a limited format until further notice.
The Mouse Phone is unavailable and Facebook Messenger is the best way to get in contact with me

Those of you with ongoing work will continue to receive my best efforts until completion and with minimal disruption.

I apologies for any inconvenience, hopefully normal service will resume shortly!.

Customers was having issues with a Perkins 4107 in their boat, previously been using cans of EasyStart to get it going, cold start glowplug was missing.

It took a few hours of work, numerous air leaks in the fuel system were repaired, glowplug system reinstalled and a few tricks of the trade to coax it back into life, but we now have a good running engine that starts and runs as good as the day it was installed.

Been away down in cornwall/devon/somerset most of last week/this weekend... Couldnt help but have a wander around Paignton harbour!.

Found a couple of boats down in Burnham-on-Sea that have errr... How should we put this... Seen better days?...🤣

Yes, I do also repair and service inboards... But if your boat has a massive hole in the side of the hull i'd say thats the least of your worries!

Being a magpie for weird and unusual stuff often turns up some gems, picked up this folding Evinrude 3hp Lightwin to add to my collection.

Once running, it will be tidyed up and hung on the shelf next to my Seagull 170 (self-grenading)

Bit of a change from the ordinary, a Watermota Seawolf!

Based on a Ford 1100cc petrol engine, commonly found in the Mk2 Ford Es**rt of the 1970s, this particular engine has just had a service, new fuel lines and an in-line fuel filter in order to satisfy the BSS inspection.

Bit of an interesting day from last month, a GRP cruiser sunk over by wootton rivers, a combination of heavy rainfall and high winds caused the canopy to become detatched and the rest of the boat filled up and sank, fortunately it is now floating again! :).

A small winch, and nearby tree were used to stabilise the boat whilst the petrol waterpumps got to work removing the water.

Hopefully everyone out there is doing alright!, i know most of the liveaboards among us are used to weeks of isolation at a time.

It's business over here until the government says otherwise, so if anyone is wanting to take advantage of the opportunity and have some service work done, please get in touch :)

11/02/2020

Hope everyone out there is safe and well following the storm!

For those of you who are having issues. I'm over at Wootton rivers and have a couple of petrol water pumps if you need me, :)

Leta take a moment to talk about impellers...

This squishy little block of rubber sits on the driveshaft of your outboard and draws cooling water up through the leg and into the power head, cooling the cylinder block and preventing overheating

However, over time this rubber goes hard, the flexible tips become less flexible, curl up or wear down to the point where they simply dont produce an effective flow.

A complete impeller kit costs around £20 depending on the engine, and are worthwhile changing at every service to be on the safe side!

Pictured below, new and old impellers from a Yamaha 9.9, quite a difference!
