Nikolas G. Taylor British-Malaysian driver Nikolas Taylor will race for Fortec Motorsport in GB4 Championship season

Nikolas Taylor may have lived mostly under the radar up until now, but that is all about to change as he prepares for what could be a breakthrough year in 2020. Having switched onto the Birel-ART chassis with the Jade Kart Racing Team, Nikolas will be competing at both Kimbolton and Shenington as well as completing his first tests in a British F4 car with Arden Motorsport. The British/Malaysian dr

iver initially began his Karting career overseas racing in the KRD Kart Racing Series. Nikolas quickly got himself up to speed taking three podiums in 2016 before a successful 2017 which saw him take three wins and five podiums in just six races! It was a great way to end his chapter racing in Malaysia before moving to the UK where he began testing straight away at Whilton Mill, one of the country’s premier kart circuits. It was also when Nikolas would be introduced to the with his future goal to race in single-seaters. In 2019 Nikolas took a back seat to race focusing on testing and developing himself in our in-house simulator. Nikolas worked with our in-house driver coaches on a regular occasion and attended our training camps around the UK to help himself develop in all aspects of becoming a racing driver. That work will now be put into practice in 2020 as Nikolas joins the Jade Kart Racing Team. The team has an impressive CV in the sport and helped train and develop FIA Karting World Champion, Danny Keirle and Rotax Max Challenge Grand Final Champion, Oliver Hodgson. Their credibility stretches back decades with Team Manager, Scott Allen carrying a huge amount of success in the sport. Nikolas will hope to carry on that success for the team as he will race at both the club championships at Kimbolton and Shenington on a regular basis in the Junior X30 class. Both championships carry hugely competitive grids and will be a great test for Nikolas as he continues to develop himself as a driver. Alongside this Nikolas will continue his development in the sim before taking to the track in a British F4 car for the first time in the summer. Nikolas’ future goal is to race in the championship and he is now at the perfect age to begin testing, particularly after the pace he has shown in the sim! Nikolas will also head to selected rounds of the British F4 championship to cheer on the Arden Motorsport team this season. It will help give Nikolas a flavour of what could be ahead and will also be a good chance to spend some time with the team. Off-track Nikolas is entering his first year of GCSE’s, studying at Brooke House College with his exams to follow in 2021. He also attends the Football Academy at Brooke House and is currently part of their successful U15 team.

Fortec's Nikolas Taylor is the inaugural GB4 champion after a dominant campaign in Britain's newest single-seater championship.

In all, he took nine wins throughout the season, and finished 50 points clear of his nearest opposition. Here's how he reacted after wrapping up the title.

“It’s my first year of racing, and I already have a championship! It’s been amazing, the team has been incredible the whole season, they’ve put up with my ups and downs, but they’ve given me a cracking car and I’ve been able to really show my pace.

“The £50,000 prize is going to be a big help, and I reckon we can look at GB3 now. I think it’s the right way to go.

“I really wanted to increase my win tally to double digits, but it wasn’t meant to be. The DNFs we’ve had this year, I’ve been able to learn from all of those and it will benefit my future career.

“I hope we can start doing some GB3 testing soon, but I’m also going to be doing some driver coaching. If you coach some other drivers, you learn a lot more yourself too. We’ll see how it goes over the next few months.

“I want to celebrate but I’ve got school tomorrow! But we’ll find a special way to celebrate with the team and the family.”
