Changes to driving test booking happening today. ⚠️

From today (9 June), if you move your driving test, you can only move it to one of the 3 nearest test centres to where it's currently booked.

This is the remaining change we committed to make by the end of Spring 2026:

📅 31 March — test changes limited to 2 per booking

🔒 12 May — only learners can book, change or cancel their own test

📍 9 June — test moves limited to 3 nearest centres

Since 12 May, we've suspended 3605 accounts for breaking the rules and reported apps to app stores for removal. We're not stopping there.

📢 The rules for booking a practical car driving test are changing.

From 31 March 2026, learner drivers and approved driving instructors (ADIs) will only be able to change a driving test booking up to 2 times.

A change includes:
- changing the date or time
- changing the test centre
- swapping an appointment with another learner

If you’re an ADI, please make sure your pupils only book their test when they’re ready as swapping between pupils will count towards this limit. You can set times when you're available to take your pupils to their driving tests. This stops your pupils from booking tests at times that do not work for you.

👉 When this comes into force, everyone with a driving test booked will have 2 changes available, regardless of how many changes they may have already made.

This change is part of the outcome of our consultation to improve the way driving tests are booked.

We’re making some subtle but meaningful changes to the practical driving test. 🚗

You may have seen that we have been trialling changes to the driving test at 20 driving test centres.

As part of the trial, learners drove on routes containing more high-speed, rural roads during their driving test, where location allowed. Now, we are rolling out the changes to all driving test centres in Great Britain from 24 November 2025.

As well as increasing the amount of time spent on higher-speed roads, we are:

✅ reducing the number of stops during the test from 4 to 3
✅ lowering the frequency of emergency stop exercises from 1 in 3 tests to 1 in 7
✅ adding flexibility to the independent driving segment, allowing it to run for the full duration of the test

These changes are designed to help improve road safety by better replicating the conditions motorists face in the real world. They won’t affect the skills needed to take a driving test.

The DVSA are adding questions about Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and how to use defibrillators (AED) into the official learning materials for car and motorcycle theory tests

This is part of a partnership working with leading national programmes from across the UK to raise awareness of these life-saving skills

All road users are being encouraged to learn basic CPR skills and know how to use a defibrillator in an emergency

Congratulations and well done to Paige on a well deserved pass today! 🎉🎉 Enjoy your independence and stay safe out there...

🚨 Market Drayton Police to Support Carnival Day — Road Closures Announced

🕵🏻 Market Drayton’s Safer Neighbourhood Team will be out in full force tomorrow, Saturday 19th July, in support of the annual Market Drayton Carnival.

As part of the day’s celebrations, a number of road and parking closures will be in place throughout the town to accommodate the parade and other carnival activities. A great deal of effort goes into creating the fabulous parade displays — so please come out, line the streets, and cheer them on!

Police are encouraging residents and visitors to plan ahead, expect some disruption, and remain patient. Where possible, drivers are advised to use alternative routes to help the day run smoothly and safely for everyone involved.

Officers will be present throughout the event to help ensure a safe and enjoyable day for all.
